President Barack Obama is announcing the creation of two Pentagon-led institutes, using public and private resources, to boost advanced manufacturing, help create jobs and perhaps build the next Iron Man.
One center will be in Obamas hometown of Chicago, concentrating on high-tech digital manufacturing and design. The other will be located in Canton, Mich., near Detroit, and specialize in light metal manufacturing.

Some days I think people just like to be the first to attack.
I’m not a fan of Obama giving money to anyone, not even us but most posters clearly don’t know what they’re talking about but have plenty to say.
Canton is not the hood by any stretch of the imagination. Its mostly suburban with a median income of around $83,000. 72.2% White, 10.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 14.1% Asian (8.0% Indian, 2.2% Chinese, 0.7% Filipino, 0.4% Korean, 0.3% Japanese, 0.3% Vietnamese, 2.2% Other Asian), 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.1% of the population.
Yep. Just more cronyism and probably a few other “isms”, too at tax payer expense.
Michigan is on a good track. One of the real bright spots in the USA. Snarky comments from FReepers notwithstanding.
The fact that “Combover Carl” and “Dinglenuts” are bailing out is a good indicator IMHO.
He'll fix that soon.
High tech manufacturing in Chicago?
What a laugh.
Yes they don't, it is a good community.
* Best Charter School in the State, Canton Charter, maybe the best grade school Period.
* Akea chose to put a store their, research what that means, it is big.
* Ice Dancing Capital of the World with Gold and Silver and 9th from one Rink in Canton, and other Olympian's training in other sports @ the gym @ that rink.
* A huge 3 campus High School with some sharp kids going to the likes of Stanford.
And that just scratches the surface...
Nothing in Fresno?
It’s been that way for quite a while. Defense contractors decide what the military should buy, and politicians make sure they do.
GE is @ both locations, hmmm....
A license plate factory. This dovetails nicely with his plan to release thousands of minority inmates from prisons.
Pay for play politics bump for later.......
It’s more of a graft and greed hub than anything else.
They didn’t say what they would be manufacturing.
Oh so sorry, I guess I missed and issue of right to work state weekly.
I was betting on it still being a union enclave. Glad to hear workers have the right to work.
Its a laundromat.
