Units of the Russian forces which formed a steel ring around the Olympic Winter Games that ended in Sochi Sunday were flown and shipped Monday, Feb. 24 to Russian bases at the Ukrainian Crimean port of Sevastopol, as Moscow refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new authorities in Kiev.
Giant Russian Air Force transports and rapid deployment forces were placed on alert at the Rostov on-Don base east of the predominantly Russian-speaking southeastern Ukrainian town of Donetsk.
Russian military movements were also sighted near Belgorod, a Russian town 40 kilometers from the Ukraine border and north of its second largest town of Kharkov. There, too, most of the inhabitants are Russian speaking with a strong affinity to Moscow in contrast to their European-oriented compatriots in the capital, Kiev.

The prime minister spoke of a real threat to our interests, and to our citizens lives and health. With these comments, the Russian leader laid down a pretext for Russian military intervention in Ukraine. It was Moscows response to the warning issued by US National Security Adviser Susan Rice Sunday, Feb. 23, that it would be a grave mistake for Russia to send military force.
I know... It's DEBKA...

"I know... It's DEBKA..."
Yes, it is, but it must be tempting to take back the Crimean which was Russian until 1954.

Neighbor and I were just discussing this not 20 minutes ago. I said Russia won't move militarily. She thought Russia would, now that the Olympics are over.
I may be wrong. We'll see when someone past Debka reports this.

So that’s what happened to the Russian hockey team...

This is possible, but DEBKA is not a reliable source.

Just my opinion, but The Russians had a difficult time in Georgia, in 2008, logistically, and militarily. I don’t see them trying to do too much in Ukraine, a larger land mass, with a population that is extremely restive. They may make some move (IMHO), but it won’t be like ‘68 Prague or ‘56 Budapest, me thinks. Thank you.

My bet is that they protect their impeached puppet in the enclave where Russians dominate. They might actually annex that, but I doubt they will take the country over.
But that depends on how the inter um government comes together. And how the Ukraine army handles this.

Gee, I wonder if they will cross the border?
Didn’t they recently move into Georgia. Reading the wikipage — apparently Georians don’t like the Russians either.

Funny... In our discussion, neither of us mentioned the President. It's as though he was so unimportant and insignificant to be meaningless to the actual important players in this situation.

Didn’t they move into to Georgia a few years back?

The most important event of the Sochi Olympics took place in Kiev — the Dictator Disposition Competition — and Moscow is not happy to have lost it.

I am with your neighbor brother. Russia moves on Ukraine.
