Since you brought up 9/11, please tell us anything our military could have done to prevent it? I mean, we had a massive budget at the time, yet it still happened.
Let’s get real here and not be so stupid: 9/11 was perpetrated by people WE LET IN TO THE COUNTRY AND REFUSED TO DEPORT WHEN THEIR VISA EXPIRED. It had NOTHING to do with military budgeting.
“our military has performed worldwide in humanitarian efforts. “
So, you support our military being used as Meals-On-Wheels. Great, another liberal wanting to tax the rest of us to provide representation to everyone else.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, or did that little ditty not make your civics class if you even took it?
P.S. You are no friend of the military since you believe their ROE is about providing humanitarian efforts and not defeating enemies at war. It is why they are getting killed and you support that bullshit.
One of Reagan's big motos was, "Peace through strength."
This would mean that saw him as a Fascist.
Not buying into that crap sandwich here bud.
I heartily agree.
Okay, I’m paranoid and you’re comatose. Agreed.
Are you one of those fiscal conservative moral liberals RE: Libertarians?
Defense is clearly a role of the Federal Government; Leftists pet spending projects are NOT. There is NO compromise nor moral relative equivalency as you allude to.
How much cost, what price is to be placed upon Liberty? I argue that there is no price too high; Many have paid the price with blood.
There is a BIG difference between defense spending and Leftist pet projects. I spent 6 years in the submarine service during the Cold War, 2-1/2 years spent under water and it wasn't for the damn paycheck.
IMHO you seem to be missing something in your perspective.
From what I have seen from this administration; at best, the proposed cuts have EVERYTHING to do with spending regardless the readiness of our military; at worst, the cuts are an intentional attempt to castrate our military. A military with a proud tradition and legacy, a military with experience that is not just created from thin air or found in a textbook on some college campus but rather passed on within the ranks. The ranks that idiots without clue one want to decimate as they promise we can always easily restore by restoring the cash flow to what took blood sweat, tears, lives, & many years to create.
Sure we had skirmishes here and there, but the global wars, the super-costly wars that cost millions of lives didn't happen.
The closest thing to it, was the Iraq/Iran war where I believe each side lost about 500,000.
Why? Because the U. S. made it know, it was going to kick the ass of any rogue state that crossed us.
You probably saw one sage state that we could go back to pre WWII status, and wait until something came along to scale up again.
Any ideas why we had to scale up then? It was because the enemy saw Europe and us weak enough to exploit.
We were damn lucky in that war. It was no walk-over.
Me too!
CodeToad, whatever doubt there was about you, has now been destroyed thanks to you.
I wasn’t able to come here and discuss this with you yesterday. You evidently decided that made you right.
No, it made you an idiot without an opponent.
Exactly, and when they do, they set global policy.
This isn’t rocket science.
LMAO...
So your idea of a plan, is to let the enemy sink our Pacific fleet again.
Okay then...
Honestly, I don't know where they pick this up.
I think the Libertarian wing today is as lost as the McGovernites of the 70s. They simply don't have enough brain cells to come in out of the pending nuclear winter.
I agree with your post, and it’s only one of probably 20 to 100 other possible good rejections of what is going on.
Thanks. And fat chance of it from Obama’s crew.
So what does out team do? Well some of them actually cheer the man on.
You were the one that said no one was going to attack us. I provided two rather obvious counters to your inane and naive statement.
Get a grip Dude. You support the claim that all our military does is active warfare (hence every post on this thread) and I merely pointed out that our military is used in humanitarian efforts i.e., tsunami, earthquakes, Navy ships as hospitals, etc. You are the only one whose reasoning can’t comprehend that the above does not equate to ‘meals on wheels.’ You must think it fine that we draw down troops levels since we are not in an active war. There will be grave consequences to that and it appears that you aren’t able to make that connection.
“Interesting that we have to debate the merits of a strong military at a site like Free Republic.”
Sadly, FR is rife with crazy isolationist libertarians that don’t see the need for a large standing army. Also, there are extreme tea party (AKA “fiscal conservatives) persons here that don’t want to pay taxes to keep the military strong. They would rather DoD be downsized that to repeal the sequester that is killing national defense.
[You, being a knucklehead] Youre the one that doesnt get it. No base or outpost can survive the onslaught of such forces as we faced with the Soviet Union. None. They were sacrificial. So, your viewpoint on this is moot.
That must be what the NVA thought in 1972, right before we turned their tank columns into putrescent junk and left overturned T-54's lying on top of one another where they fell ..... Yeah, better check with General Giap's colleagues about that one, Sparky.
What twaddle. "Moot"? I'll show you "moot":
Second, what happens when all your troops are overseas and then slaughtered leaving none at home?
When the Armed Forces of the United States get "slaughtered", I assure you there will be no form of life left on the other side more complicated than tree moss.
"Slaughtered" -- what piffle! What, are you just expressing your fondest hope, that you will live to see your splenetic isolationism validated on the bones of American servicemen, so you could put down your bowl of mush long enough to mumble through your drool, "See? See?! Told you so!!"
Because we can’t cut the leeches off welfare.
Why does it look like the 30s all over again?
