...when Sandy Burger got caught stealing secret documents???

I remember that .... but did anyone ever figure out what he was going to do with those docs, which reflected badly on Slick?

Was his intention to "disappear" the documents?

Of course.

Remember that Burger had been in and out of the National Archives several times before being caught. The people at the Archives said that no harm was done because they still had other copies of the documents, and that Burger only took interim working copies, but he actually took copies that had Clinton's notes in the margins.

It was Clinton's notes that were incriminating.

I think the belief was that the copies he stole had notes from the Clinton administration warning about Bin Laden.

Googling around I found this:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/01/sandy_berger_what_did_he_take.html

Berger took five copies of the report and later destroyed three of them. What was on the copies he destroyed? Handwritten notes from Berger, the President, or some other official? Observations that would be embarrassing to them, evidence they missed an important threat or considered or recommended actions - or decisions not to act - they wouldn't want to defend in public? Evidence, perhaps, that would have supported the Bush Administration? We don't know, and no one who does is saying, but the evidence must have been terribly damning for Berger to take the risks he did.
