Yup, that's one thing us westerners don't have a grasp on is the mind set of those in the east, it's call saving face.
Putin does not want to lose face in sight of his host country is the country of hosting the Olympics.
You can bet a good horse fly that Putin will deal harshly after the Olympics is over.

From what I read China and Ukraine's president Viktor Yanukovych signed some kind of bilateral treaty that China and Ukraine are now strategic partners.
In other words ? if the Ukraine is threatened with nukes or a nuclear invasion that China would protect them.
More so China would also protect them from inside threats as in : "the establishment of any separatist, terrorist and extremist organizations or groups, and any of their acts, to harm each countrys sovereign rights, security and territorial integrity. .
Now Obama wants to act like John Wayne cowboy and try to be the king of the hill and threaten the Ukraine with China's protection.
Just like Syria, so to Obama wants to get the USA into a major war escalating into a nuclear war.
How much you want to bet that Obama already know's the treaty that China and the Ukraine signed and that was the plan all along ?

If Russia becomes Balkanized, it will be because it never learned to treat its citizens like citizens. Putin will be the reason.

We’ll have to see what happens. That part of the world seems to change borders quite frequently.

Russia is balkanized because it is a union of 80n countries. Ukraine is one and won’t “balkanize”, it has always been its own, just invaded time and again because it is plains, Europe’s breadbasket
