Rubio mistakenly believed Krauhammer's assertion that backing 'immigration reform' (amnesty) would 'save' the GOP. Both were mistaken. The Republicans should propose securing the border first, with adequate funding, then worry about the rest of it - with no amnesty.

Most Americans are not overly concerned with 'immigration reform'. This is a Democrat issue intended to (a) bash Republicans and, (b) gain Democrat voters by proposing amnesty (with lots of loopholes) for those already here. Rubio is permanently tainted and will likely never regain his 'star' status because the party base - conservatives - no longer trust him, for good reason.

I am for amnesty. Under conditions. One, the border is closed and that doesn’t mean a cute fence. Two, all illegals currently in the US who have a criminal record are deported wth families. Three, all illegals MUST have a sponsor, either an employer or clergy. And finally, illegals receiving citizenship are forbidden to vote for a period of 10 years.
