Let's see, it started with John Cornyn illegally trying to get Crist in office, so he could change parties.

its so obvious if you step back and look....any viable candidate who speaks well or has charisma is getting the hit treatment....why?...to make room for another candidate of their choice....

and conservatives and freepers fall for it every time....

It may have been at the behest of the scum party leaders but the speed with which Rubio completely abandond his claimed “core” principles to chase the political winds are what did him in. If it was indeed sabotage by the party leadership, it was only made possible by Rubio’s own failings.

Rubio mistakenly believed Krauhammer's assertion that backing 'immigration reform' (amnesty) would 'save' the GOP. Both were mistaken. The Republicans should propose securing the border first, with adequate funding, then worry about the rest of it - with no amnesty.

Most Americans are not overly concerned with 'immigration reform'. This is a Democrat issue intended to (a) bash Republicans and, (b) gain Democrat voters by proposing amnesty (with lots of loopholes) for those already here. Rubio is permanently tainted and will likely never regain his 'star' status because the party base - conservatives - no longer trust him, for good reason.

Nobody sabotaged Rubio.

From the beginning he promised illegals amnesty in Spanish language speeches to groups like La Raza, whilst simultaneously speaking about border security to English speaking audiences. His La Raza speeches were posted on YouTube and various posters put up links to them here.

Once in office, he showed it was La Raza he had been speaking truthfully to.

It wasn’t conservatives and Freepers who fell, it was Rubio.

We saw through his fall in an instant, and abandoned him just a quickly.

I wanted to like Rubio. He worried me a bit, because I didn’t see a lot of grit in his character. He didn’t look like a fighter.

And he began to strike me as a guy with positions rather than bedrock principles.

GOP keeps trying to sell amnesty and they do not want to repeal Obamacare. Every politician they send out to sell it winds up limping home after getting his hat handed to him because the people don’t want it. Rubio took the bait and now reaps the reward. Jeb Bush is in the same boat. Once the favorite, now exposed as another amnesty shill.

Rubio alone is to blame for his fall from grace. He’s no conservative.

Rubio tried to persuade us that suicide was the way forward. Being rational individuals and not love-sick fans, we said to ourselves, maybe Rubio’s not the guy we thought he was. If Chait thinks this was sabotage, he’s a major league dim bulb who’s blinded by his prejudices. In his heart of hearts, he’s got to know that amnesty will lead to short- and long-run political debacles at the ballot box for the GOP - immediately from disgruntled conservatives, and later on from amnestied immigrants who want a bigger welfare state.

Marco Rubio sabotaged Marco Rubio by choosing to die politically on the same illegal amnesty hill that Bush 43 chose to die politically on.

The standard way to fleece a rube is to offer him an easy way to get what he wants anyway. Rubio wanted to be a presidential contender. They whispered into his naive ear that amnesty was the way. His ego and his cultural sympathies did the rest.

Rubio fell from grace when he finally stated his true position supporting amnesty.
NO real conservative would go for that.
I voted for his sorry ass for Senate, I will not be fooled again.
Regardless of how much smoke anyone tries to blow up my ass.

At the time that Bush (W) put forth his resolution to solve the illegals who came over the border, it sounded good to me. The plan called for the illegals to have to be in the country for at least six years, and even then get behind those who had applied legally for admission which would take seven years.

That meant that it would take 13 years for anyone illegally crossing the border before they could become citizens.

The simple truth of Bush’s plan was that the only other option was to put all the illegals who had crossed our border on busses and send them back to Mexico. Could you imagine what the left media would have done with columns and pictures if he deported the illegals? Pictures of due-to-deliver moms to be, of elderly and infirm, of small children looking scared stupid, and every other tragic person or peoples being crammed into overflowing busses.

There are also not enough busses to do the above.

In addition, Bush said that the law would call for anyone committing a serious crime not to be allowed to stay, but would be deported immediately.

That would be at the beginning of his campaign.
He came out for amnesty from day one.
In his spanish language speeches.
