Feminist groups at several universities recently took part in an effort called Edit Wikipedia Day, to address what they perceive as the sexist flaws in the website, according to a post by Leslie Eastman.
In describing the issue, Sarah Stierch, a Wikipedia contributor and researcher for the Wikimedia Foundation, told Daily Dot that the site is aesthetically very masculine in its design, adding that the average Wikipedia editor is a well-educated white male. Well-educated white males have been writing history and the story of the world since ancient times.
To improve this situation, the annual Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon inspired feminists around the country to spend an entire day changing and rewriting the online encyclopedia to make it less masculine, according to Campus Reform.
The event is a follow-up to last years similar edit-a-thon, when feminist sympathizers were called upon to edit feminist thought into Wikipedia articles.
Its not like my life passion to make Wikipedia feminist, but its been really surprising, theres this whole underground world that I wasnt aware of people who are dedicated to editing Wikipedia, said Krystal South, an event organizer, in a statement to B**** Magazine. The beauty of Wikipedia is its a public institution, people have the ability to go change it.
LOL.
Leftists attacking leftists.
“the average Wikipedia editor is a well-educated white male.”
And she knows this because she’s sitting behind the shoulder of every editor/poster on Wikipedia as the edit or add new information?
So write Feminedia, or kwitcherbitchin.
OH NO, the well-educated white male!!! We’re all doomed ..
How does Wikipedia prevent non-white non-males from posting material, or editing material posted by others? Does Wikipedia do some sort of racial profiling?
As far as educational level, I guess it's true that educated people have an advantage over uneducated people when it comes to communicating with each other.
Come to think of it, educated people have the advantage over uneducated people in pretty much every area of life.
That is - after all - why we have an educational establishment in the first place. And why we have universities. Which are the main places feminists are paid attention to.
“aesthetically very masculine in its design”
???
How does Wikipedia prevent non-white non-males from posting material, or editing material posted by others? Does Wikipedia do some sort of racial profiling? They must be intentionally using this “aesthetically very masculine design” to repel wymyn!
“Feminism” is a disease of perception where everything is a slight and anything can be stated to be too masculine.
We’re all supposed to somehow feel chastised by this and coddle their lack of self esteem and skewed perceptual bias.
If you added some flowers, pink text and cute kittens, they would probably accuse you of stereotyping.
aesthetically very masculine in its design
Lessee here, undefendable premise, undoubtedly written by one with virtually no real education in any demanding subjects.
The writer of that drive can shove her silly little ideas up her Obamahole.
And follow them with herself.
And leave thinking to folks with measurable IQs.
Oh, and Ms Stierch, my wife would have to be dead for years for her IQ to drop to your level. Get a life..and pick up a brain whilst there.
So, they spent the day dotting all the i’s with little hearts?
“So, they spent the day dotting all the is with little hearts?”
LOOk, very good!
mark
When I google a subject, I like to go to some other site than wiki.
aesthetically very masculine in its design,
What the heck does that even MEAN?
That’ll be the day!
