More evidence Rand is an idiot, even if he is okay on some issues.

I agree because the bar to become a felon is so low now that almost everyone is guilty.

I, for one, agree with this. If their debt to society has been repaid in full, then there’s no reason to further punish them. If it hasn’t been repaid then they should not be out of prison...

Once they served their time in prison, I don’t see why not. Why release ppl out of prison at all if the crime is not forgiven. Those in prison should not be allowed to vote though

Not really so strange. They’re both pro-amnesty too.

Enough to make one think they want to see more liberal voters.

Why is Paul worried about this crap? We got a President who is dismantling America with edicts, executive orders, endless regulations, and foreign policy in shambles.

PAUL'S A KOOK! PAUL'S OFF HIS MEDS!

No really, he is.

Apparently there was a vote in the Senate:

Gutting of felon voting rights bill angers backers

http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20140219/NEWS0101/302190062/Felon-voting-rights-bill-gutted-Rand-Paul-testifies

“The Senate passed a watered-down version of a bill to restore voting rights for some convicted felons on Wednesday, potentially dooming a measure that has garnered support from U.S. Sen. Rand Paul.

The changes — which would cut the list of those eligible for restoration of rights and impose a strict five-year waiting period — angered supporters of the original House Bill 70.

HB 70 would set the stage for allowing convicted felons to have their voting rights restored automatically once they complete their sentences. “

If you stay clean for say two years after release you absolutely should get your voting rights restored. This policy of denying rights to people who have supposedly paid their debt to society is an abomination and I believe the founders would have taken a very dim view of it.

I read another interview today and rand is now walking back his statements so that his “main focus” is only for non violent drug users and dealers. The bottom line is that he wants it for Liberaltarian reasons and the rats just want 2 million new rat voters.

A thought came to me, which could be a sort of compromise. Those out of prison will need to have a good behavior grace period before voting right is restored. If you’re in jail for 5 years, you need to have 5 years good behavior before voting right is restored

Convicted felons have a very high recidivism rate, about 80% are caught so the one time " mistake" is extremely rare.

Society justly punishes those that commit antisocial acts with restrictions of their liberties. This includes restrictions of most of the first 10 Amendments, at least for a certain time.

If a person did make a 1 time mistake they have the right to petition their governor for restoration of their rights so the process already exists.

The more I see of Rand Paul the less I like him. When he came out for amnesty he lost me. Now I just shake my head.
