A new Gravis Marketing poll (conducted Feb. 10 12; sampling 729 likely Texas Republican primary voters) may be a harbinger of trouble for establishment Republican Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
He faces Rep. Steve Stockman, Tea Party favorite Dwayne Stovall, and five others in a March 4 Republican primary election. If no candidate receives an absolute majority (50 percent plus one vote), the top two will face off in a May 27 run-off contest. The eventual Republican nominee will be a prohibitive favorite in the 2014 general election.
The run-off system is designed to ensure that the winning candidate receives a majority of support from the party voters. Therefore, when a universally known candidate in a primary race is forced to a secondary vote, like Sen. Cornyn in this case, the political death knell is usually sounded. The fact that a majority of the primary voters have already chosen an alternative candidate despite being keenly familiar with the front-runner normally spells eventual defeat for the under-performing first place finisher.
Sen. Ted Cruzs (R-Texas) 2012 electoral situation becomes an obvious model for the race in which Stockman, Stovall, and five others are currently embroiled with Mr. Cornyn.
The challengers objective will be to place second, and deny the senator outright victory on March 4. Two years ago, Mr. Cruz scored 34.2 percent of the vote in a Republican primary field of nine candidates, holding favored candidate David Dewhurst, the states sitting lieutenant governor, to 44.6 percent. In the run-off, with 22 percents less voters participating than from the first vote, Cruz went on to swamp Dewhurst, 57 to 43 percent.
Could the same fate await Cornyn?

My third cup o’ joe is suddenly tasting mighty good this AM. Maybe I’ll call Cornyn’s election office and tell them I’m sending another check to Stovall. I’m in that kind of mood.
DON’T GET COMPLACENT!!
THIS IS A DEMOCRAP TACTIC TO SUPPRESS THE OPPOSITION VOTE
Opposition votes are stronger. This is how you suppress them.
Cornyn not only needs to lose, he needs to lose BIG to send a message that you ignore the TEA party at your peril

Yup.
Amen.
Those who won’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it...

Conservative rival Richard Mourdock easily wins Indianas Republican Senate primary over the 35-year incumbent. He will face Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly in the general election.

Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly pulled off a stunning upset over Republican Richard Mourdock in the Indiana Senate race a battle that the GOP thought was a sure win until the final days of the campaign.
Like South Park’s Cartman, I be thinking his primary election night tears of defeat would taste mighty sweet.
Effing RINO.
Go Stovall!!!

Let your friends and relatives know that Cornyn has other challengers besides Stockman. Stockman is very vulnerable to Cornyn’s attack ads, and that is why the media is trying to set him up as Cornyn’s only opponent. They want the weakest of the field to run against their RINO.
Hope it’s true (Gravis is a terrible pollster). But it sure looks like there may need to be a run off. Here’s hoping!
Little different. Indiana has some swing to it (Barry won in 2008). Also, we learned a lesson there, and the rat candidate won’t be as competitive as Donnelly was (some failed businessman if I remember correctly)
Need I remind you of Rick Berg or Tommy Thompson (establishment losers) blowing it?
The rap on Bunning: He said what he thought, didn't mince words and offended some people for doing so.
My friend attended a town hall meeting where some middle aged crone was berating Bunning for voting against some version of a so-called "violence against women" act. She droned on about how her ex- had threatened her, yada, yada yada. Bunning finally cut her off and said something to the effect of "Ma'am, you should get a restraining order. It isn't the job of Washington to solve all your problems." He got a big round of applause with that line from most of those in attendance who'd grown tired of her monologue.
But, of course, the media version was that he was insensitive to women.
Agreed!
Now is not the time to be smug and complacent.
Don’t let up for even a minute, people!
John Wayne McCornyn needs to be removed from the Senate!
Mourdock isn’t a good analogy. He wasn’t even bright enough to dodge the rape question trap. He committed political suicide.
