An Affordable Housing Project Faces Opposition in Wealthy Chappaqua
The New York Times ^ | 02/17/2014 | Joseph Berger

"It's important to introduce children to diversity so they grow up knowing these people are just like us, no different."

The project would allow Chappaqua, where 91 percent of the residents are white, to contribute to a desegregation settlement Westchester County reached in 2009 that is being overseen by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development...The county is required to aggressively market those apartments to nonwhites.

For 20 years I owned a house in one of the most desirable section of one of Boston's most desirable suburbs.Mine was a small, tidy, sturdy house in an area littered with million- dollar-plus McMansions.Nearby there was a piece of open land on which some developer announced they'd build several units of "affordable housing".Well, the neighbors were outraged."What about the traffic?",they asked."Our kids will be sitting ducks in that traffic",they said.Absolutely amazing....funny if it wasn't so transparent and disgusting.

Oh,and BTW...that town went for Osama Obama something like 75-25...both times.

and for those who want to have even more fun, google "Commonwealth Day School".It's a story told surprisingly well by the Harvard Crimson (yes,*that* Harvard) about the naked hypocrisy of some of this nation's brightest (by *their* reckoning at least) and most compassionate citizens.

Liberals swoon over civil rights - until Blacks start moving into the neighborhood.

That town is uber Liberal. I don't live from from it and you get dirty looks if don't drive a BMW or Audi. I assume they will do what other Liberal towns do here and declare any open areas as wet lands and in need of a 20 year Environmental Impact study.

Isn’t protesting against ‘gentrification’ code for anti white discrimination?

Montgomery country, maryland THE Freak state), has a policy for years that has been "opening" neighborhoods. It requires housing developments of more than 50 units or so to build MPDUs (moderately-priced-dwelling-units) so as to have those with fewer financial resources to live in your neighborhood. Great...you work hard to move to a better place and the DIMs/LIBs force others with "different values" on you. Just great. DIMs/LIBs are insane.

um... just the opposite will occur!

everyone in school will know 100% sure that THOSE people are different in 100 different ways (besides skin color) and none of them positive!

I expect a mass Exodus of rich white people from that school district.

This whole “diversity” idea is based on the concept that sewage can be turned into lemonade by mixing small quantities of sewage with lemonade. Try it at you next garden party and wait for the praise.

Funny!

Another point: as HRC hears up to run for President, she is not going to do anything to derail a low-income housing project in Chappaqua. She wouldn’t even do anything behind the scenes, because it would be better for her if the project is going forward when she’s running.

You're right, although they don't even have to move. The project won't be near their house and the Secret Service swarm all over their property, so crime won't be an issue. The Clintons probably will hang onto the house just to look good, even if they spend almost no time there. Money is not a concern (anymore) for the Clintons, so they can afford to keep and run the Chappaqua house even if they don't use it often.

families of four earning no more than roughly $64,000 would qualify, as would poorer families, including those who receive federal vouchers.

I don't make anywhere near that. Talk about a slap in the face, a punch in the nose and a kick in the shins.

Let's see....26 families..that'll eman another 50+ kids in the school system...average cost now is about $13,000 per kid..do the math..

OTOH..lots of maids and nannies will now be able to live close to their jobs..

The Chappaqua School District spends about $25K per pupil funded by the average property tax bill of $23K per household. The schools there are good which is why so many people, including 15% non-whites, sacrifice so much by stretching their housing and property tax budgets to live there.

Whiteness does not seem to be the common thread, seems like hard work and success. Sure there might be lots of Mercedes and Porches in the town, but during the work week there are fewer at the country clubs than there are parked in the commuter lot for 16 hours a day. Why is that unfair and need to be torn apart? Sounds like someone's American dream at work.

With the exception of the ‘toons, I highly doubt this neighborhood has too many ‘rats. Most other people there actually work for a living.

If anything, the idiots in city hall chose to force diversity in the neighborhood to “make it hurt”.

60/40 for Obama in the last election but the local slate went Republican, better than some towns in Westchester, but not great. It's historically a very Liberal town, and now, the Clinton's live on one side of town and Gov Cuomo lives on the other side of town, so conservatives do not have it easy.
