WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A 67-year-old attorney in Tallahassee, Florida has pleaded not guilty to sending an electronic message to the office of Champaign County GOP Rep. Jim Jordan during last year's government shutdown that threatened to harm the congressman and his family.
"Your Tea Party sh-- is hurting me, so now I am going to hurt your family," an indictment says Theodore Erwin Mack wrote to Jordan on Oct. 14. "Get ready ... I am coming after you and all members of your family. You can't hide from an Army ranger who is well armed and doesn't care if he dies."
Records filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida show Mack was charged with transmitting an interstate threat against Jordan, which is punishable by a fine, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
Mack entered a not guilty plea on Feb. 6, and was released without posting cash bond, said Tony Joseph, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Tallahassee. His March 10 trial is scheduled before Judge Mark E. Walker.
Mack's attorney, Thomas L. Powell, did not immediately return The Plain Dealer's request for comment. He told the Lima News that Mack used poor judgment and wants to apologize to Jordan. Powell said his client was upset by the budget crisis and shutdown.
Obviously, he used extremely poor judgment, but what he did was borne out of frustration, not malice, and he deeply regrets the effect of his actions, Powell told the Lima News.
Jordan's chief-of-staff, Ray Yonkura, said Mack's message was relayed to the office through a website that lets constituents contact Jordan. It provided a fake name and an address in Norwalk, Ohio. Jordan's office forwarded it to the Capitol Police.
"We took it very seriously, we had no other choice," Yonkura said. "We kept our Norwalk office closed until we got the all-clear from the Capitol Police that it was safe to open."
Obviously, he used extremely poor judgment, but what he did was borne out of frustration, not malice, and he deeply regrets the effect of his actions, Powell told the Lima News.
He deeply regrets being charged with a crime. He could care less about the effect on the victim.
I’m all for bringing back dueling. The reason dueling was banned is because leftists can’t fight for crap and always ended up dead on the field.
I did some research on Mack. Thoroughly undistinguished career. Was disciplined about 10 years ago. Almost no information about him on the web even though he’s been practicing for more than 20 years.
Wait until this guy figures out that Baraq Obama and Harry Reid caused the shutdown. He'll REALLY be mad.
sounds like Supreme Court material!

Nothing vague about that threat
Alec Baldwin threatened to move to Canada if Al Gore lost the election. I am waiting for him to make good on his threat.
He could have repeated what Obama said:
‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
His head should be chopped off on TV. Thanks Deadeye Division.
He’s 67 and became a member of the bar in 1975 at about age 27 or 28. It takes about 8 years for bachelors degree, law school and becoming a member of the bar. That means he started at about 19 or 20. Either he got drafted at 18 did a two year tour including Ranger school(which I doubt because they told me in basic that they would send me to Ranger school if I extended my enlistment) and then spent the next 8 years getting educated or he joined the Army after law school which I’m a bit dubious about. The other alternative is that he was never in the Army and never got a Ranger tab. Now I’m curious.
