The Wisconsin National Guard responded Tuesday by announcing that it had suspended the soldier who apparently posted the photograph online from her honor guard duties. The photograph was taken at a guard training facility in Arkansas and included soldiers from other units.
The National Guard also was taking steps to protect the soldier after she received death threats.
The photograph originally posted on Instagram shows about a dozen soldiers around a casket. Several hug playfully. One flashes a peace sign. Another has his back turned and is pointing off in the distance.
The caption reads, "We put the FUN in funeral -- your fearless honor guard from various states."

These were jokes. No one’s remains were desecrated or mistreated so no one has a reason to be offended.
It must be stressful and depressing to be around so much death and sadness every day.
I think the phrase “gallows humor” fits this situation.
Unfortunately, some soldiers just do plain old dumb a** stupid stuff. This is an instance where they went from d-a to dispicable. After 20 years in the Army and working with the Army for another 20 years as a civilian, I don’t doubt it is authentic.
Is that truly the honor guard uniform? I thought they used dress uniforms.
This is what our military has become? These individuals are not battle worthy obviously.

I spent nine years on subs. I get gallows humor. And honestly I don’t really see any real damage in posing around an empty casket while at an honor guard training class (I wouldn’t have had the flag on it though).
In the old days a picture like this would be in someone’s scrapbook. Now it’s splashed across the world in seconds and there are way too many people eager to take a stab at every slight regarding our military.

There are some things you do not “joke,” about.
If they are not mature enough to recognize this, they should never be a part of any honor guard.
Plain and simple. In this case, no excuses needed or accepted.
I agree...The casket was empty...They were mucking it up for an apparent photo shoot in front of someone's cell phone...Probably waiting for a photographer to show up...
I’d bet at least ten of them are Obama supporters.
They probably were rehearsing the Drill and Ceremony rather than actually on the funerary detail.
