The Obama administration will attempt to resume talks with the Taliban to free the only known American soldier in captivity in exchange for the release of Taliban prisoners held at the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The move is an attempt to free Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl before the majority of US forces leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, the report in the Washington Post said, citing current and former officials. The swap would trade Bergdahl for five Taliban members who would be released from Guantanamo Bay into protective custody in Qatar, the Post reported.

This guy's disappearance and capture are really strange.
My first thought was the guy had psychological issues or extreme political issues.
An earlier comment nails the solution, though.
Since we will eventually release all the bad guys at Gitmo anyway, why not trade now for the missing American?
Exactly, the PA would trade prisoners with the Israelis but kill them just before doing so.
It sucks, but should we just leave him behind?
You DO remember that uber-metrosexual Obama is in charge, don’t you? His loony Leftist base would revolt if he did or even said that! They ARE revolting, just not against him yet.
He may be an idiot, but he is still our idiot.
Which is basically what I said.
He is no hero....
I think it’s a good Idea, track the five ragheads when they leave wait till they get to Afstan and then call out the UAV’s
and tell that soldier not to wonder off again.
Ronald Reagan offered no exchanges and all of the Americans were returned
BUMP!
Maybe we should be devoting more resources to locate and extract him. Its just a matter of priorities.
If you look at other “hostage” situations elsewhere (e.g., Iran, North Korea) as a guide, its evident that Obama isn’t pushing for releases (even though he has leverage). He doesn’t really want to exercise any form of American power over our adversaries.
I suspect the administration hasn’t, unitl recently, been sufficiently motiviated to deal with this man’s plight. But since we are withdrawing now, decisions are being pushed by political considerations.
Obama wants to clear out Gitmo before he leaves office so he’s now motivated to “horse trade”. I think its the wrong approach.
Good trade, we can kill the vermin later with drones.
