40 tons of salt

40 tons? Jeez, that's enough to fill up a short handful of dumptrucks.

I'm thinking misprint, don't editors exist anymore? I'd take this number with a grain of salt.

40 tons x 2000 = 80,000 lbs
80,000 lbs / 45 (c.f. per pound salt, granulated, piled)= 1,777.77 c.f.
1,777.77 / 27 = 65.84 cu. yds = 5 dump trucks at the least.
