Before stand-your-ground laws, if one idiot was aggressive, the person might back off and go away. Now if one idiot is aggressive the now thinks he has a perfect right to use deadly force instead of backing off. The gun killing rate is 2 1/2 times in states that now have these new SYG laws.

Given the average person involved in these situations, I’ll bet that (at least prior to the Zimmerman case) 90% of those involved had no idea if their state had a “stand-your-ground law” in effect.
There are always exceptions, but more often it goes even further the other way: I recall vividly, many years ago, being accosted by 2 young thugs (both of whom were about 1.5x my size.) They had somehow mistaken me for a “narc”. I can guarantee you, I might know my legal rights better than most people, but at the time, that was the last thing that would have come to mind...
