If it’s Friday on PBS, it’s time for “conservative” pundit David Brooks to bash the real conservatives. One of his favorite targets is Sen. Ted Cruz. On Valentine’s Day, PBS anchor Judy Woodruff announced “We watched this drama play out this week, David, in Congress, which ended up in the Senate with Senator Ted Cruz of Texas essentially hanging some of his fellow Republicans out to dry. What was he trying to accomplish, and did he -- did he do it?”
Brooks shot back: “Nothing says Valentine’s Day like Senator Ted Cruz, our national aphrodisiac.” Then he said the conservatives were allergic to strategy:
BROOKS: What he was trying to do is -- it’s unclear. There are a couple -- the official explanation was that he wanted Republicans to fight. He thinks there`s a spending problem in the country, and Republicans should fight harder before raising the debt ceiling, and they should get some spending reforms. That`s the nominal explanation.The effective explanation, he was going to force a lot of Republican senators, including Mitch McConnell, that are up, to force -- to make them cast an unpleasant vote, which is going to help make it harder for them in the primaries against a more rightward challenger. And so he put a lot of people in a tough bind.
And the basic problem have been here before. They’re not all insane. They saw how badly it went last time, and they made a completely rational strategic decision, let`s just let it go and let`s move on and talk about something else. And that`s called basic strategy, nursery school-style.
And yet, somehow, there are some in the party who think strategy is bad. They just want to run into the wall again and again and again.

This is false. There was no GOP “strategy” last time. Progressive Republicans were allowed free reign to undermine the alleged GOP position during the shut down.
Note that consevative for pay useful idiots like Brooks don’t have a problem with King, McCain, Corker, etc. stabbing conservatives in the back. For a supposed conservative he sure spends a lot of time trying to delegitimize conservative positions.
Cruz exposed these RINO’s in a way America has never seen before.
They’ll eventually get after Cruz more intensely than they went after Sarah Palin.
Yes, This is Alinskite stuff. A game plan to deligitimize and marginalize conservatives. Any leader like Cruz that emerges will get fire bombed from both flanks by progressives.

What’s weird is Brooks wrote some really nasty stuff about Dems when Bush was in the WH. I remember one about Harry Reid using crayons. Yet now he has nothing to say about Reid going nuclear and plays attack dog for Team Dem. Odd.
Brooks should come on down and campaign with John McCornyn and his bag man, Karl Rove.
It’s hard to believe he was like that once, I don’t remember him before the crease in his pants remark. He just seems like a buffoon.
There’s a scene in Band of Brothers.
They get trucked up to the Bastogne forest at night, at the end of December. As a matter of historical fact, they have nothing but orders, a little ammo, little food, a couple of cigarettes, the clothes on their backs, no winter coats and their character.
The rest of the army is retreating in shock and awe. They tell the guys to turn back they’re going to be surrounded.
Capt Winters says, “we’re paratroopers, we’re supposed to be surrounded.”
And they march into the night forest as a battalion.
They suffered a lot of casualties. And as they die, we remember them. Babe Hefferon died a couple of months ago.
These guys were the first to go up to the Eagle’s Nest, and they were among the first to discover and liberate the Concentration camp, and to get the local Germans to bury the dead.
Brooks must be the national wanker..
Cruz didn’t “make” or “force” mcconnell and cornyn to vote one way or the other. They voted the way they wanted to vote. And they’re both cowards!
..............I think it was Palin who got there first though when she coined the phrase “permanent political class” or something like that!
