ObamaCare patients with serious pre-existing diseases could face expensive drug costs (NOT covered)

People with serious pre-existing diseases, precisely those the president aimed to help with ObamaCare, could find themselves paying for expensive drug treatments with no help from the health care exchanges.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb of the American Enterprise Institute explains,"if the medicine that you need isn't on that list, it's not covered at all. You have to pay completely out of pocket to get that medicine, and the money you spend doesn't count against your deductible, and it doesn't count against your out of pocket limits, so you're basically on your own."

The plan had claimed it would rescue those with serious pre-existing conditions.

"So it could be that a MS patient could be expected to pay $62,000 just for one medication," says Dr. Daniel Kantor, who treats MS patients and others with neurological conditions near Jacksonville, Florida. "That’s a possiblity under the new ObamaCare going on right now."

I guess this is how Obama intended — kill off those who do have chronic diseases and the older people, then Obamacare can survive and thrive, when it’s only available to those who don’t actually need medical care.

He must have read Hitler’s book about “useless eaters”...

Take two aspirins and if that doesn’t cure you, just go off and die...

The whole idea of insurance is to cover unexpected medical costs, including medications.

Anyone can come down from one day to the next with some disease that is expensive to treat, that’s the whole point of insurance...

“Good.”

Would you mind explaining this comment in more detail?

And note that this doesn’t even “just” apply to those with pre-existing conditions, which of course Obama promised it would be covered, but even if you get some disease AFTER you have insurance that requires expensive medication, that won’t be covered at all and won’t even count against your huge deductible.

So you might as well NOT have insurance, if it doesn’t cover expensive treatments.

He's correct. I get a $1250 infusion (Tysabri) for MS every month, and that's only one medication. Doesn't add up to $62,000, but still...

My wife was on Tysabri and it was $12,000 a month. She is on Medicare, but we have supplemental insurance, so between the two her bills are covered 100%, except for a few medications.

But still the cost of that is minor.

Her trips to the Dr, Hospital, ect. are covered 100%.

But between the 2 we pay close to $600 a month, and the supplemental covers me as well.

Good

In a painful way, yes.

We need to get medicine back - as much as possible - to consumerism. We need to create a market for medicines, so that the power of a FREE market to lower prices can come into effect. If someone is always footing the bill, that doesn't happen.

Now, this is good in the long term, and horrible in the short term, for those that can't afford medicines. Maybe private charity can step in to fill the gap in the meantime. I don't know, I'm open to ideas.

(Spoken as someone who takes prescription medicine every day.)

The true goal of ObamCare was to give politicians control and a mechanism of coercion to assert that control.

If you control peoples health care you control a major facet of their lives. If you control peoples health care you can coerce them to vote for politicians who dole out the medicine

To do this medical costs must be contained to keep the system from collapse to maintain that control.

Because of this, people with expensive chronic conditions cannot be provided with long term expensive treatments.

These people with chronic conditions must therefore be kicked to the curb, which will not make the sick person and their families very happy.

Unhappy people with horrible chronic diseases make for great sob stories that provide bad press for politicians and unhappy people with nothing to lose do not vote for politicians who control medical care so it is in the interests of the politicians that these chronic patient die as quickly as possible before they become a political liability.

This one reason euthanasia is so popular in Socialist societies. Of course the fact that Socialist societies are so depressing and degrading that even young and healthy people often choose suicide dose not make things better.

The only way ObamaCare could save money would be to kill those that liberals consider undesirable instead of treating them. It looks like Obama has a chance to keep his promise about saving money. My guess is that ObamaCare will cost more in addition to killing those without connections, but there is some chance that BHO will finally keep a promise.

You just have to have the right disease, that’s all. One that is politically correct like AIDS.
