Year after year, Kansas City has one of the highest murder rates in America.
But why?
As The Stars Editorial Board embarks on a closer examination of the homicide issue in 2014, its crucial to first review figures regarding some of the usual suspects such as racial demographics and poverty rates often labeled as contributing factors behind violent crimes.
The frustrating conclusion: Theres no clear demographic or economic explanation for why Kansas Citians too often kill each other.
Heres a deeper look at reported murder rates for the 50 largest U.S. cities in 2012, the last full year available from the FBI, plus 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau for minority populations and poverty rates. All 50 cities had populations of 360,000 or more.
Kansas City had 22.6 murders per 100,000 residents or 105 deaths in a city of just over 460,000.
That was the fifth bloodiest count in the country, behind only Oakland (31.8), Baltimore (34.9), New Orleans (53.2) and Detroit (54.6). (See chart.)
On the other end of the scale, the best 10 cities had murder rates of 4.6 per 100,000 people or less. The top three were Mesa, Ariz., (3.1), Portland (3.3) and El Paso (3.4).
A note about St. Louis: Its homicide rate was staggeringly high 35.5 per 100,000 but the city no longer is among the nations 50 largest.
Kansas City had the 13th highest percentage of black residents 29.9 percent.
The statistics for all 50 large cities do show a correlation between murder rates and black populations.
Seven of the 10 worst cities for murders also ranked in the top 10 for percentages of black residents

East St. Louis is a very small town, with a crime rate all out of porportion to it’s size, population wise.
Lie #1
Theres no clear demographic or economic explanation for why Kansas Citians too often kill each other.
Lie #2
Kansas City had the 13th highest percentage of black residents 29.9 percent.
Omission or Lie #3
What % of murders and or violent crime is committed by that 29.9 %
Misery NOT Ks!
KS side probably not all that great but much, much smaller population, more industrial.
Went through E. St. Louis back in ‘98. Block after block of empty store fronts, an economic dead zone. I wonder if it has improved.
What is it with you people? There is a medium sized city called Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City (sometimes referred to as KC) sits on the western edge of the State of Missouri, with St. Louis in the eastern side.
On the Illinois side, there is a tiny town called East St. Louis, whereas on the Kansas side, there is another tiny town called Kansas City, Kansas.
Missouri is probably purple with a very blue Governor but both St. Louis and Kansas City, are very blue, with mostly black City Councils and both ruined perfectly good school districts by Federal judges ordering State of Missouri to pay tax $$$$ to both districts to make up for "discrimination," both districts are unable to meet accreditation, so "graduate's" diplomas aren't worth the paper they're written in! Sadly for parents and students, both school districts refuse to allow students tax dollars to transfer out of the schools where they are trapped.
Lastly, MO is run by unions, Kansas is Republican run and right-to-work, union free, except government unions (city, county, state workers and if course teachers unions, but KS schools are tops in nation!)
A person can’t fix stupid. If the writer would take his head out of his .... he could plainly see the problem.
Should be easy to figure out. There is one government-designated victim group that is given special privileges, free money, and a free pass to commit crime. This group is not known for its high IQ or job productivity. The logical conclusion is that it will commit more crime than normal people.
A large portion of Kansas City, Missouri south of downtown and eastward can be dangerous. Much of Kansas City, Kansas is dangerous. North of the river & areas west and south on the Missouri side are nice. Most of the suburbs are nice. Grandview still suffers from a post Plaza flood relocation program. Not really the safe mid-western city some would expect. In the city’s core mid-western values don’t reside. Just like most large US cities there is a large and dangerous urban core where welfare, drugs, and violence are the rule. The above is some of the reason why I am happy to have moved.
Kansas City in the 1920’s became one of the major destinations for Blacks leaving their sharecropper life in the south for better opportunities in northern cities. Much of this migration was triggered by the 1927 floods in the Mississippi River basin. This migration was fueled by the New Deal, so it continued through the 30’s.
In Kansas City, as elsewhere, these newcomers displaced Whites in the city core. the Whites moved to the suburbs. Fast forward. During school desegregation, a Federal Judge took over the Kansas City, MO school system and implemented policies that further concentrated Blacks in the city core. He imposed taxes on surrounding Missouri counties and used the money for extravagant excesses in Kansas City Schools. Whites then fled to the Kansas side, outside the judges jurisdiction.
This gave Blacks all of the political power and they took over City Hall, and gained power in the Police and Fire Departments. The result is a city that is economically and socially stagnant, with economic growth and opportunity primarily across the state line. Even Kansas City, KS has turned the ocrner by merging city and county government and boosting growth with a NASCAR track, major league soccer stadium, and casino.
Everything is no longer up to date in Kansas City.
Some easy clarity here.
The KC black population commits proportionally a LOT more murders than do other ethnic groups. But at the same time, a LOT more murder *victims* are black as well.
http://www.kcmo.org/idc/groups/police/documents/adacct/newbluesheet123113.pdf
30% of murderers are black males, 12% are white males, and importantly, 55% are unknown.
59% of *victims* are black males, 20% are white males, and 10% are black females. All told, 69% of victims are black.
Since victims are typically killed by people of their same race, the assumption should be that the majority of the 55% of unknown murderers are black.
This might boost the percentage of black murderers to (my guess) around 50% or more of all murderers.
And throwing in the red herring of Hispanics was intentional, because only 6% of the victims were Hispanic, and 0% were known murderers.
There are believed to be approximately 3055 gang members or affiliates in Kansas City, Missouri. There are over 442 different gangs in the area, however many of these consist of only a few members.
Many times Hispanics are labelled White in crime statistics, especially when they are the perps. Just look at the wanted posters for any Mid-western town or city. Jose and Pedro, who look like bandito extras off the set of a Hollywood Western, are invariably listed a 'White'.
According to DOJ crime statistics, blacks commit 50% of the murder while being only 12% of the population.
Kansas city is also home to all the voting precincts that wait until the results for the rest of the state are in before turning in theirs so they know exactly how many fraudulent votes they need to manufacture.
Argus is an African-American weekly newspaper in St. Louis.
Theres no clear demographic or economic explanation for why Kansas Citians too often kill each other.
If the writer would compare the statistics east of Troost to those west of Troost, I think he would get a clue.
My great-great-grandfather's brother was sheriff of Jackson County in the 1870s, but since he was not my direct ancestor I don't accept any responsibility for the current situation in Kansas City, crimewise.
When the government took over the newspapers and the Mafia.
