I avoid taking vacations with my family when I get vacation time, because it is expensive to drive more than a couple states.

One day it will get to a point where I cannot pay for the gas to drive myself to work.

They built one Dog Park in my town too. It was4 years ago. Last summer I went there with my dog and it was overridden with waist high grass and weeds.

States should pay for their own roads and bridges. This is total BS. All the Highway Bills that have passed, plus the Porkulus...where did that money go? (I know, I know, it’s a rhetorical question. It went to Barry’s friends).

And the powers that be know this!

But I don’t mean just payroll taxes - I mean every single penny we pay in taxes for everything.

States should pay for their own roads and bridges.

I believe all roads and bridges should be owned and controlled by state drivers associations. The associations would be just like the port authorities or transportation authorities we have now except that the officers or directors would be elected by licensed drivers, who are automatically members of the association. The associations should take over all function of state transportation departments and set the rules and regulations of the roads for themselves.

We would definitely end up with better quality roads for less cost and the associations would be infinitely more responsive to its members. The needs and concerns of drivers are at the bottom of the list for most elected officials and not even on the radar screen for the hacks appointed to current transportation authorities.

I thought the stimulus package was filled with shovel ready jobs to fix roads and bridges.

Graft
If only they had used the monies collected FOR infrastructure... This is simply another ‘make work’ scam by the government. Too many workers not doing any work.

Lets fix a major line:

U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told a Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing that allowing the Highway Trust Fund to run dry would slow road building and other infrastructure projects and hurt the U.S. economy unions that soak the taxpayers at every turn by overpaying the incompetent and lazy for limiting output.

That looks better....

Public Transportation
About a third of federal gas tax revenue in the Highway Trust Fund also goes toward subsidizing local public transit projects. The argument for a highway fund being used for mass transit is that it reduces the number of drivers on the roads. Jonathan Williams of the Tax Foundation, among others, has argued that this is an inefficient use of highway funds, although more efficient than many earmarks that federal gas tax revenue has been used for.
.............................................................
The above use makes sense to these fools. Use gas tax money to prop up mass transit reducing the number of private vehicles on the road lowering the amount of taxes collected by less drivers buying gas. Kind of a reverse pyramid scheme. After they have eliminated private transportation and no one buys gas and fills the gas tax coffers, then where will mass transit get funds ?

They can always find new ways to raise revenue. Don’t underestimate them.
