Watching the Sochi Olympic ski-runs melt beneath the feet of athletes, global warming alarmists have decided to take action. Over 100 Olympic athletes, including 85 Americans, have signed a letter that calls on the UN to take action against anthropogenic global warming Because the palm trees that line the streets of Sochi, Russia, are clearly the result of too many SUVs on the road, and not the result of typical sub-tropical weather patterns.
"The once consistent winters that I saw as a young kid are no more, especially near my home in Vermont, wrote US cross country skier Andrew Newell, who penned the Al-Gore-esque letter to the United Nations. Aside from the fact that Newell is basing his understanding of global weather patterns off of his 30 years of existence (only a fraction of which he has had the intellectual awareness to contemplate things such as weather fluctuations), the letter comes at a time when the US is struggling through one of its worst winters in decades. Just to put this into context: when Newell was born, the world was desperately concerned about global cooling And now, as southern states struggle with an apocalyptic 2 ½ inches of snow, were concerned about global warming. My how things have changed!
Snow conditions are becoming much more inconsistent, weather patterns more erratic, and what was once a topic for discussion is now reality and fact. Our climate is changing and we are losing our winters. Newell continued. Somehow I think Americas east coast might disagree as they struggle their way through the second major snowstorm of the year.
The recently warm weather in one of Russias southernmost cities (yep It got up to a sweltering 60-some-odd degrees Fahrenheit) has induced a sense of panic among disciples of Al Gore. Apparently the subtropical climate of Putins choice for the winter games is evidence of a global warming trend that could soon make cross-country skiing a thing of the past.
Im not an environmental science major, Im not a scientist, in fact I didnt even go to college, Newell admitted. And now that we have established a firm grasp of the obvious, maybe we should enlighten the 30 year old skier on a few other universal truths:
Russia has plenty of snow to host the Winter Olympics. (Of course, the same cant be said for their infrastructure, competency, or resolve But when it comes to snow volume, yeah. Theyre set.) Unfortunately, Sochi is not among the many Russian locales that boast a harsh, intense, or even mildly cold winter. In fact, the climate around the Black Sea was a driving concern when Sochi was originally named as the host for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Heck, had we hosted the games in Michigan this year, they easily could have been the coldest games on record. But melting snow is what youre bound to get when the average winter temperature routinely climbs above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, as it does in Sochi.
Second of all, Al Gores crusade against manbearpig (global warming) has proven to be little more than a vehicle for scammers, con artists, and politically motivated redistributionists. Its hardly the scientifically based theory that it pretends to be. In fact, when judged by scientific methods, the theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming becomes comical. Near Antarctica, global warming scientists were stranded because they had failed to account for seasonably cold temperatures and ice build-up.
Remember back in 2008 and 2009 when Al Gore warned that the entire North Pole would be free of ice during summer months within 5 years? Well Its been five years, and we have seen a 50 percent increase of ice over last year Now that I think about it, if Sochi wants more snow before the Games close, they should just invite Al Gore to the area for a speech on global warming. After all, his speeches on the matter usually coincide with unseasonably cold temperatures.
Newells anecdotal observation of world weather patterns and predictably warm Winter Olympic events, certainly dont prove global warming. The debate over my Jeep Rubicons contribution to extreme weather aside, what exactly are these 105 Olympians suggesting the UN do about the weather? (This sounds like a plot twist in a Dr. Who episode: An unaccountable world organization sets out to command, and control, the worlds weather. Quick, to the TARDIS!)
Since Al Gore first decided to champion this cause as his defining one thing has been clear: According to the statists who claim to care about the environment, only redistribution and big government can possibly slow the eventual erosion of our planet.
Heck, the UN commissioner on Climate Change even went so far as to say that only communism offered the world a chance at ending global warming. Of course, this comment came as quite a surprise to everyone who remembers the Soviet Unions abysmal record on environmental issues. And Im sure such comments were news to the residents of Beijing, China (where they recently erected giant television screens to broadcast the sunset because the smog had made it impossible to catch a glimpse of the sky).
Developed nations, such as the US, has already heavily invested itself in a regulatory frame work of redistributive, and punitive, climate change initiatives. Obamas EPA has instituted a cap-and-trade plan without the hassle of the trade portion. They have also fully embraced cronyism and corporate welfare as they redistribute monies from evil oil and coal industries, to green energy companies like Solyndra (bankrupt), A123 Systems (bankrupt), and Abound Solar (also bankrupt). Billions in green energy funding has been spent by government agencies after plundering the funds from productive (and profitable) private companies.
I guess its nice to see that these Olympic athletes have decided to feign a broad sense of concern, but their obligatory worry is misplaced. The sports that grace the Winter Olympics are not going anywhere. I mean, heck, even 5th Avenue in NYC was suitable to cross country skiing this past week. Moreover, asking an unaccountable international body of bureaucrats to fix anything is like asking Vladimir Putin to build an Olympic city: Corruption will run rampant and incompetency will prevail.
The letter goes to show that accomplishment does not always coincide with intelligence. The idea that 105 athletes wrote a letter to a world organization that supports communism (while they are housed in the former Soviet Union) to call attention to the warm weather in a sub-tropical resort community seems created for Merriam Websters definition of irony. Especially while the rest of the world deals with polar vortexes and record breaking cold snaps.
Stick to skiing, Newell. Al Gore can fight manbearpig on his own.
Love to the Olympics die off. Never watch it but spousal unit is addicted to it as well as a lot of sports.
This is the first time I have not watched the Olympics, not even the opening ceremonies
Here’s the problem “Rust never sleeps”.
Anthropogenic global warming has taken a hit in the last half decade, because not only have more people than standing up and speaking out against the hoax, but the deception has actually been exposed to the people in ways that it is difficult for them to ignore. And, when the economy gets bad, common sense about what we should be doing with our money does begin (at however a small pace) to kick in, and when people got a whiff of how much money liberals and other envirowhackos plan to take out of our pockets and give to international organizations to manage it, people do begin to germinate a thought in their own heads of what the global warming movement is really all about.
They recognize (when real money is on the line) that the whole thing is a giant hoax and a boondoggle Basically, a redistribution of wealth, even though they may not recognize it as such.
I have to admit though, when I write something like that and go back and reread it, it sounds almost Optimistic. It looks like those statements I’ve written give some kind of credit to the electorate, even though after the last two elections have developed a somewhat hardened contempt for the overall electorate.
That is all well and good, but here is the rub: the global warming crowd is not going away. It’s a form of liberalism, and if there’s anything that we’ve learned from watching the way liberals operate, is that they and their flawed ideology can be likened to a one-way ratchet.
They recognize that time is on their side, and all they have to do is be persistent. Every little piece of territory that liberals gain, is lost. It is rarely gained back, if ever. I use this analogy over and over again, of the boy using his fingers to plug holes in the dike. The boy trying to plug the holes in the dike is conservatism. We have to be on all the time, constantly vigilant, constantly doing battle, constantly fighting back, constantly trying to impede the progress of liberalism. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, conservatives have to keep their guard up to try to hold back the flood.
Liberals, on the other hand, get to take a day off. They all have to keep at it, because they know once that they get it, it’s not going to be given up and handed back (ideologically speaking of course) they can go home, sit down and have a beer, and then pick up what they were doing the next day, the next week, or even the next year. And they rarely if ever lose back ground in that process.
And that, in a nutshell, is the problem with combating the global warming hysteria and hoax. Like Chinese water torture, liberals slowly indoctrinate children, hammer away relentlessly at low information voters via the media, sometimes using a blunt force instrument by openly taking a side and making a statement, but more often, and more insidiously, simply shape the language in subtle ways that are picked up by people whether they know it or not.
So, even if today, there are people out there who might logically shrugged their shoulders and think to themselves “Eh, palm trees at the Winter Olympics in Russia Who cares? Maybe it’s just little warmer there right now for some reason like A warm spell.”
But liberals are fine with that. They can just sit there and wait. And they’re going to wait until the next big disaster, some big hurricane, some tornado, a plane crash caused by a thunderstorm, anything. A giant wildfire, a drought, famine, you name it.
When that happens, the liberals who have been sitting quietly with their whole stockpile of global warming hysteria tools packed in large canvas bags, will pull them out and begin plying their trade.
And when the time comes (and it will someday, because that’s the nature of nature) they will bang on this issue again, and again, and again, and again, until someday, there will be a hue and cry from enough people to make this hoax (and the millions of dollars of taxes and energy crushing legislation that goes along with it) a reality.
I know that sounds completely defeatist, but they have succeeded in making this scenario of anthropogenic global warming completely plausible, along with the concept that there is going to be catastrophic consequences if it isn’t addressed by large, international governmental bodies of some type.
I think that Jacques Chirac was completely on the money when he referred to international bodies such as the IPCC being the first step towards true global governance, which is really the end goal of all this crap.
Then charge us tax for the mule carts hauling our diseased carcasses to the mass grave site.
In order for the UN and the Dictators to "Get Even" with America, we must all die.
Buplic scholl assletes.
Not only is Sochi relatively far south, but the mountains, while having impressive verticals, are at fairly low elevations for ski areas.
When I was younger, I enjoyed the Olympics. I particularly remembered being in the Navy and watching Franz Klammer do that incredible downhill run in the 1976 Winter Olympics. The last one I really remember watching in any kind of depth was the 1980 Winter Olympics. I was never into the Summer Olympics at all, it just never appealed to me.
Since the early 90s, my television watching began to dwindle to the point that around the millennium, I was watching no television at all. I watch very very little since then, probably about an hour a week right now, and that’s all on one show because my wife wants to watch it, and I want to spend a little relaxed time with her. (She likes Downton Abbey)
And, oh yeah I do watch three hours of football during football season a week. So I still watch a little bit, I guess.
With the Olympics, I think what really, absolutely killed it for me was allowing professionals to compete. As an American, the Eastern block used to kill me, because their athletes WERE largely professional, especially the hockey players. But when they changed the rules, and sports like basketball and hockey allowed professional athletes to participate, it completely changed the nature of the games for me. I think that is when I completely stopped watching.
Now, after not having watched it, it’s interesting what hits me as I walk by a television with the Olympics on. It is completely and totally, 100% marketed towards women. I don’t have a problem with women competitors, because they compete just as hard against each other as men do. But it hits me somehow wrong, kind of in the same way that it hits me wrong when I hear the commercial with an announcer talking about some WNBA player who is the most phenomenally talented female basketball player, and the guy announcing it is screaming at the top of his lungs “SHE DUNKED IT! SHE’S THE FIRST FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYER TO DUNK IN A GAME!”
Every time I hear that commercial on the radio, it still makes me roll my eyes. It is the epitome of what I find wrong but that kind of thing. It isn’t about the talent or the performance. It’s all about what kind of anatomy the person has.
I hope so.......
So this means the majority did not sign the stupid letter, and those who did probably voted for that arrogant pos occupant of the Spite House anyway
Shut-up and skate.
Other than watching the 'miracle on ice', the finals of men's hockey in Salt Lake City plus a few random moments while channel surfing, I haven't actually watched any of since the summer when Montreal had the show in town.
I’m gonna save this article for later...
I’ll read it after I’m finished shoveling the snow off my driveway.
Wrong! See link in post #49. The total number of Team USA 2014 is 230 athletes and if you add the 54 Athletes of the 2014 U.S. Paralympic Team that would make 284 American athletes
Excellent point
Same here my friend. The Olympics has been infected and cannot be healed.
Ban the Olympics.
Are you sure you are a conservative? You sound like a liberal that doesn't like something and thinks no one else should either.
Just don't watch em. It's as simple as that
Oh come on, it is a complete and utter travesty how the Olympics are awarded and then run. courses to die on, they’re so rough
Jiu jitsu choreographed skating routines, snowboard and ice team dancing?
what next?
Oh, and questioning my conservatism? lolol
what difference does it make??
So?
