This week, the Kansas House of Representatives passed House Bill 2453, "An act concerning religious freedoms with respect to marriage." Despite its name, this bill isn't about religious freedom. It's about creating new special rights (yes, those dreaded special rights) for people with anti-gay views.
The bill would protect the ability of any individual, government agency, or "religious entity" (which includes a business operated in accordance with owner's religious views) to refuse service based on sincere religious beliefs about sex or gender, and to refuse to recognize any marriage or similar arrangement for those reasons even if such service would otherwise be required under Kansas law.
In other words, a special new right to discriminate on a particular basis.
Republicans aren't normally keen on creating special workplace rights for public employees, but this bill would let government workers refuse to do their jobs if doing so conflicted with such sincere religious views. Let's say you work for the Kansas Department for Children and Families and you don't want to process a foster care application from a same-sex couple, even though that's within the agency's policy. Or you're a police officer and you don't want to respond to a domestic abuse complaint from a same-sex couple. If this bill becomes law, that will become your right.
The bill even creates a special new employee right for anti-gay people working in the private sector. Let's say you work for a national chain supermarket with a policy against discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation, and you're asked to make a cake for a gay wedding. Now, you can refuse, and your private employer "shall either promptly provide another employee to provide such service, or shall otherwise ensure that the requested service is provided, if it can be done without undue hardship

Actually, the writer has it backwards - the bill protects the rights of proprietors to run their businesses the way they think best for the enterprise and themselves, and not to be subject to the special interests and demands of certain chosen and preferred minorities - it avoids the imposition of special rights for special people.....
We have a God given authority for those “special rights.”
I didn’t know Business Insider did satire.
So, it’s a special right when those who demand special rights are denied same? In other words, it’s the typical leftist view of the world as a zero sum game.

Did you know the Democrat party voted to remove any reference to God at their 2012 national convention ? And when they decided it was a mistake and unpolitical they rammed the change to put it back in like they voted for Obamacare. But delegates booed the decision. The Democrat is not the party of JFK or even FDR. It’s a queer hyphenated marriage between socialists and “progressives” They are now Demo-Coms.

No not going to allow you to get away with this. The special “rights” are those wanted by the homosexuals to force people to be accepting of an participatant of their perversions. Our rights to freely practice our religion were inshrined in the Constitution. You think the founders wanted homosexuals to marry? Yeah right.........-
Let’s say you work for the Kansas Department for Children and Families and you don’t want to process a foster care application from a same-sex couple,
There is no way in hell I would ever give a child to homosexuals. I am an adoptee and THANK GOD that did not happen to me.......... I would gladly walk away from the job before I subjected a child to that abuse......
This Kansas law needs enforcement; the Sheriff in the county where a federal judge rules against it needs to evict that judge from the state of Kansas. How will a handful of Marshals stand against the county sheriff and the Kansas State Patrol?
A spark is needed. Bring it.
The right to discrimnate is the right to free association. It is wholly constitutional and is the epitome of freedom. The converse of it is what we’ve been living in for the last 4 decades.
Why does Kansas seem to be the only courageous state here? They should be leading a train of states in similar laws.
“When Will Social Conservatives Stop Demanding Special Rights?”
When will Illegals stop demanding special rights from a government that isn’t theirs?
All businesses and services have an absolute God-given human right to refuse service to anyone for any reason or with no reason at all. When anyone objects to such a decision, all individuals have an absolute God-given human right to refuse to do business with that particular business or person for any reason or with no reason at all. There should be no government involvement in such choices/squabbles.
Josh Barro is using this column to attack social conservatives. Barro is openly gay, supports gay marriage (there goes religious freedom!), an atheist, appears on MSNBC, is praised by David Brooks and is reportedly one of Obama’s favorite columnists.
Josh Barro hates social conservatives.
Josh Barro sounds like a twink...
Social Conservatives???? There is no such thing!
There are social Republicans and there are traitorous Republicans and there timid and meek Republicans but the word “conservative” doesn’t exist with the word “Social.”
Understand this, Josh:
No matter how effectively you faggots manage to further debase the American legal system*, your perversion will always be despised by the vast majority of mankind.
ALWAYS
*(if that's possible)
I thought Business Insider was a conservative site, but no more. How can you oppose protecting anyone from not having to bow down to homosexual demands! I just shows that while you can be some sort of conservative and not be a Christian, you cannot be a true Christian and not be a conservative.
