Montana Gov. Steve Bullock said Friday he told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to mind his own damn business when the Nevada Democrat phoned him last year in an effort to influence his appointment to succeed Max Baucus in the Senate.
According to an account in the Helena Independent Record, Bullock told Montana reporters about his terse words with Reid. The phone call occurred before the administrations announcement that Baucus would be nominated to be ambassador to China.
The Nevada Democrat had a big stake in the electability of Bullocks pick. Reids party can lose no more than five Senate races to maintain his majority leader status, and the open-seat contest in Montana is one of the GOPs top pick-up opportunities in November. Bullock, a Democrat, ultimately chose Lt. Gov. John Walsh, who was already running for Senate. Baucus announced his retirement from the Senate early last year.
He wanted to weigh in on who I should choose and this was before it was even public, Bullock said of Reid. And I said it was none of your damn business.
Bullock would not say whether Reid suggested a replacement for Baucus, telling reporters to reach out to the majority leaders camp for confirmation. A Reid spokesperson declined comment.
But Bullock did further outline his message to Reid in that December call.
I said, You know what. Stay out of my decision-making. This is a decision I make and no one else. This is one of those decisions that voters have entrusted me with, Bullock continued.

He hasn’t dropped out yet from the looks of things. He really seems to dislike Walsh.
Option #2.
Montana Rat trying to look like a good ol’ boy, show his independence from Dingy Harry.
They yukked it up in reality.
But we all knew that.
I’m a little surprised to learn that Montana has a rat governor.
Good analysis, and it lines up pretty well with what I’m thinking. That’s probably why I liked it. :-)
What the Hell is wrong with Montana?? Is everyone there on Meth?

Boy-HOWDY!
America needs more politicians like Gov. Bullock!
Shutdown Reid was shut down by Bullock!
I would bet that the governor picked who Reid told him
to pick and this is just CYA.
I gather he has already appointed the senator.

Walsh is so crooked that he couldn’t be a general, but he’s crooked enough to be a Democrat Senator.
Did they ever find the 23 million bucks from the stimulus package that went missing in Walsh’s department?
“I would bet that the governor picked who Reid told him

Bingo. This governor is trying to distance himself from Washington D.C. and the pols in it in order to give a leg up to Walsh so that he isn’t tarnished with the Obama regime’s bad reputation in what is mostly a red state. This was all a put on by the governor to fool those who are easily deceived.
The dems financed the libertarian and got him 5%...
I am sure the dim gov told Reid off. Yeah I believe that.
Because he followed Sweitzer who would have gotten 70+ plus of the vote had he not been term limited.
I keep reminding folks that despite the red presidential vote Montana is a purple state trending to blue with all the out of stater's moving in.
The good governor gave the GOP a gift by picking Walsh. As always it remains to be seen if they will screw it up..
Schweitzer was a Dem Gov also. 8 years of that one. Been a while since Montana had a Republican Gov. I think it’s because the libs moved into Western Montana, displacing the influence of Billings in the East. I wouldn’t count on getting a Republican Senator this time either, as some are doing. Don’t have one now...
Well, he ended up appointing his Democrat, Lt. Gov. John Walsh to the seat. The Dems think this will give Walsh the incumbent’s advantage and they will hold this seat. I don’t think so.....
