Several multi-vehicles crashes, involving as many as 100 cars and dozens of tractor-trailers stretched over several miles of icy highway, shut down the eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike for six hours today.

All you Snow people up there in the north been telling us southern Freepers we don’t know how to drive in snow and ice.
What happened?
Yikes, what a mess. It’s good that apparently no one was killed or even seriously hurt, but still. What a mess!
Worst in PA Turnpike History.
And it was a sunny day, above freezing and the road LOOKED good.
Wow, I had the same question.
Guess yankee ice and southron ice are both slippery or something!
I’m assuming it is the bravado of “been there done that.”
So many forget that diligence and attentiveness in driving coupled with sensible actions aren’t a substitute for the northern equivalent of “hold mah beer.”
I heard it wasn’t really weather-related to the snow/ice. The guy driving a tractor at the lead had an issue with glare and that started the entire chain reaction
All it takes is one driver, likely from the South.
Oh crap. I bet that Fed Ex truck is THE ONE with my package on it.
Funny....sometimes it’s a wonder how someone sane can spot a catastrophe about to happen, and the rest of the road population thinking that somebody, maybe government, will take care of things.
In my extensive experience in the NE, usually from Massachussets. Doing 15-20mph faster than the prevailing traffic pattern. And weaving in and out of traffic.
Yeah...you keep thinking that. If you guys up there are such great drivers, why do you see scores speeding towards an obvious standstill....
I think not.
Was Joe Biden driving on the turnpike by any chance?
Yes. Glare is certainly an unexpected event resulting from melting ice and snow.
In all honesty, I see my share of “non-weather compliant” drivers in the Midwest, also. As I pass them on a two-lane and make them flinch.
People are idiots.
Plus I think there is a fair bit of safety equipment overload going on.
In all my years in NJ, the cars I saw most frequently wrecks invariably had MA tags on them.
It was uncanny.
Certainly, I agree. However, the attitudes of some of the people here are seriously demented.
