A new poll shows Democrat Alex Sink has a good-sized lead over Republican David Jolly in the race to replace Bill Young in Congress.

The poll shows Sink with a seven-percentage-point lead over Jolly. The poll was commissioned by WUSF Public Media, Bay News 9 and the Tampa Bay Times and surveyed 603 registered voters in Congressional District 13 - all who say they're likely to vote in the March 11 election.

Forty-two percent of those surveyed are planning or leaning toward voting for Sink, with Jolly picking up 35 percent. Libertarian Lucas Overby is way back of the pack, with 4 percent. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The DNC is throwing a LOT of money into this race, while it seems David Jolly is underfunded and being attacked for his history as a lobbyist in Washington - an "Insider". Alex Sink does not herself come with clean hands.

Not a good sign in Florida if a Dem wins the seat of a Republican.

David Jolly is supported by Karl Rove and the GOPe. His demise may just be the beginning of a wake up call for the consultant class.

This is in the Tampa area, not a refuge for New York transplants. The previous Congressman, C.W. Bill Young, Republican from the days when Florida was still Democrat, had represented this district (Pinellas County) for some 40 years, and was an ace at steering pork back to the district.

The incompetence of certain Florida politicians caused the state to lose hundreds of millions in bad investments. Alex Sink, who most recently was the state Chief Financial Officer, was the key person responsible for the decisions made. This very same argument was held against her when she ran for Governor against Rick Scott, in 2010.

Both Charlie Crist and Bill McCollum were involved in this scandal as well, and they lost their bids for higher office. The main culpability belongs to Sink, however. She had the fiduciary duty to perform due diligence on the agencies handling these investments, as well as enforce the law in handling Florida’s treasury. Instead, Sink and her team appear to have tried to find ways around the law, and in the end broke them to jump on a bandwagon as the wheels came off. Later, when the collapse came, Sink looked for ways to blame others for her lack of oversight and discipline, as did Crist and McCollum, who were also trustees to the fund.

She would not be getting any better in Washington, DC, either. And keep in mind, she is greatly in favor of Obamacare.

The county I live in (Broward) voted for sink 66% over Scott, same as dade and palm beach counties.

I live in a liberal cesspool. But the weather’s nice. And no state income tax.

Ditto. Broward is a joke, and has been ever since the "hanging chads" fiasco in 2000.

The district is mostly liberal now. When Bill Young first got elected the district was huge, with lots of Republican areas, now the district is mostly St. Pete and its minority area. If Alex Sink wins, it is not an upset.

Worst part of this is she has actually campaigned on NOT repealing Obamacare, just a little tweak here and there.

I’m so damn discouraged.
