A father was forced to shoot a dog to death in front of a local grocery store to protect his daughters who were under attack, the Grand Junction Police Department reported.

(snip)

Herrera and two companions did not know the name of the dog’s owner and did not have permission to take the dog for a walk, police reported.

Dog bites little girl? Shoot it.

Dog in his own yard barks At cop? Don’t shoot it

Simple

Good for him. But he's not a cop, so he's going to get in trouble for it.

"All involved in the incident agreed the man was justified in shooting the dog. No citations were issued because “no criminal violations took place,” police said."

Unquote.

Grand Junction. That puts a hurt on the Colorado lefty gun control activists who are afraid to hang around movie theaters.

It looks as if they did steal the dog. They had no permission to take it for a walk. Thats theft.

It was a clean shooting, and now the dog abductors need to pay.

The dog was likely unlicensed, did not have its shots, and they figured they would get in worse trouble if they admitted it was theirs. They were correct in this regard.

The girl will likely have to have rabies vaccination, which thankfully is not so hideous as it used to be. One dose of human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG) and four doses of rabies vaccine over a 14-day period. The first dose of rabies vaccine is given as soon as possible after exposure, with additional doses on days three, seven and 14 after the first.

The pain and side effects of modern cell-based vaccines are similar to flu shots.

Either that or they lied about owning the dog to avoid a lawsuit.

Agreed.
I’ve had to draw on a dog going after my Wife and kids once. I didn’t pull the trigger because it would have been unsafe had I fired. The, “Owner,” showed up as I was drawing.
I do not recommend it.

They have the dog's brain to test for rabies.

Ten to one they were the owners of the dog and lied to the police hoping to get into less trouble.

The trouble is that the sooner you get vaccinated, the better. They even count “day 0 (zero)”, which is far faster than they can determine if an animal was rabid.

If it later turns out, as is often the case, that the animal was not rabid, that just means they don’t need the rest of the regimen of shots.
