I met him once in a church when he gave a sermon in a neighboring town on the evils of Hollywood. Nice man.

I've never seen the Walton's, but his death in Cliffhanger is still one of the most shocking moments in any modern action movie.

Mr. Ralph Waite, rest in peace Sir! You were an excellent actor and director. I especially loved the episode with Josh. Many life’s lessons taught well, Mr. Waite. Thank You!

A great actor even if he was a liberal. RIP, John Walton.

An outstanding actor and by all accounts a decent man, liberal politics notwithstanding. RIP.

Ralph Waite was the youth minister at my church, and he gave me my first Bible when I was seven.
He didn’t become an actor until later.

The Waltons was a great series. I am always astounded by their self sufficiency. They grew their own food, raised animals, fixed their house, cars, machines, they hunted and fished. Drinking recipe, and shooting a gun were not a sin; men could be men and women could be women.
Just think, if we face the same conditions that the Waltons faced in the depression, the death rate today would be exponentially greater.

People like to make fun of The Waltons but I'm fascinated by that show. It shows me an America I will sadly never know.
The theme music to that show is perfect. Really sets the mood and puts you in mind of 1930s Appalachia.
