In Canada, after years of massive noncompliance and enormous cost overruns, the Government finally threw in the towel and shut down their long gun registry. This in a nation which had firearm laws which most Americans not living in California, Illinois, or New England would have considered far too confining, and gun owners there would have vigorously protested (look at the recalls in Colorado).
Why anyone in government would think Americans would comply is beyond me, and I am shocked that as many complied as did.
People will only comply with the law as long as the law makes sense, for starters, after that, it is less sure that will happen.
When we have a government that picks and chooses when, where, and even if a law will be enforced, even to the point of breaking the law itself, the constituents of that government will act in kind when it comes to compliance.
I live far from their borders, but in my area I don't know anyone who owns just 1 AR. Multiple ARs, on the other hand ...
Just WOW. So a gov't gun-grabber actually admitted the truth -- that the purpose of the law is not to protect the health, safety, and welfare of women, children, and minorities, make the streets safer, or for any reason other than to keep law-abiding citizens from owning scary looking objects that are the tool of choice in an extremely small number of homocides and firearm deaths.
Will the gov’t start showing up at houses doing confiscations?
There is the real question.
They will find out who has them when THEY die trying to confiscate them
Compliance with Tyranny is Treason...
Did Gugliomo support these idiotic bills?
Hoe many AR-12s?
To the extent that they are (largely) owned by long term owners, where does "circulation" come into the discussion?
Well, yes. But what it really means is that you're about to have a much, much bigger problem. This is a problem entirely caused by a government whose intention is to rule rather than represent. They're stuck. The Dems will dig in their heels and never allow a syllable to be rescinded lest it threaten their power, and the public will increasingly disregard the law. Examples will be made on a few unfortunate gun owners and the people will dig in their heels in turn. It's an impasse. I'm minded of the fellow named Parker who said, "If it has to begin, let it begin here."
How, not ‘ho.
“I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register,”
If you register your firearms, you are just preparing for the day that you will turn them in.
And? Untold millions have flouted our immigration laws for decades, and y’all want to reward them. Double standard again?
“all of them are committing Class D felonies.”
Make everything a felony and then lament the fact that felons can’t vote. The liberal way.
Those that complied should be ashamed of themselves. Did they really think they would be rounded up and put in jail if they didn’t?
Traitors to their country and Constitution in my opinion.
I’d never comply. But I live in Texas. I don’t think this would EVER happen here!!
I don’t think much of AR’s and AK’s. Only reason I would buy one would be so I could shoot some of the huge purchase of ammo that the Fed Gov has bought.
My preference is a lot heavier projectile and load.
I think the answer to that, is YES they will. They can not have a total communist take over, without a successful gun grab first. Unless they shut down the Internet and communications services first, the news will get around the entire country, in minutes. Then, people have to consider what Solzhenitsyn said, but I have a feeling it could get REALLY ugly in the hinterlands, as millions of people do a molon labe on their sorry asses. How I despise these rat bastards.
