The U.S. military had a multitude of forces in the region surrounding Libya when terrorists attacked the Special Mission in Benghazi and murdered four Americans, according to an unclassified Navy map obtained by Judicial Watch this week.
The map features the Navy fleet positions in the North Africa Area of Responsibility (AOR) on September 11, 2012, the day Islamic jihadists raided the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, the first diplomat to be killed overseas in decades, and three other Americans were murdered in the violent ambush.
Dozens of vessels were stationed in the region on that day, including two aircraft carriers (Dwight D. Eisenhower and Enterprise), four amphibious ships, 13 destroyers, three cruisers and more than a dozen other smaller Navy boats as well as a command ship. Carriers are warships, the powerhouse of the naval fleet with a full-length flight deck for aircraft operations. During the Benghazi attack, two carriers were based to the east in the Arabian Sea, the Navy map shows.
Two amphibious assault ships (Iwo Jima and Gunston Hill) were situated to the east in the Gulf of Oman and one (New York) was in the Gulf of Aden, the map shows. A fourth (Fort McHenry) was located on the west side of the African continent in the Atlantic Ocean. Amphibious ships resemble small aircraft carriers and have air-craft strips for vertical and short take-offs and landings. The destroyers are scattered throughout the region, but the closest appear to be four (Cole, Forrest Sherman, Jason Dunham and Aboon) in the Mediterranean Sea north of Libya. The rest of the fleet includes cruisers, minesweepers, patrols and a command ship.

So simple incompetence explains this?

Despite the appearance, why would Obama/Clinton/JCS allow this to happen?
I do think they allowed it to happen. Why? Because 0bama didn't want any "other" casualties in the news before the 2012 election.
0bama, just like in Fast & Furious was running guns to Mexican drug cartels, also was running weapons to one faction in the Syrian conflict. The other faction (al-Qaeda) didn't like that, and tried to stop it. Ergo dead American ambassador, and three heroes.
Why was Stevens better off dead?
Collateral damage (see above). The last thing 0bama needed before the election was a foreign policy disaster. Especially a terrorist attack, when "al-Qaeda had been decimated," and "was on the run." Making him look even weaker in the world arena.
The lie about the video, and the ensuing cover-up, got him past Nov. 8 with a win.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Incompetence is never simple, in my experience.
Sometimes it takes great skill and effort. Qualities unfortunately directed to PR and office politics.

Good afternoon. I think the story points to a CIA operation gone wrong. Hillary set the security level at Benghazi and set it too low. Why?
Because protecting the Ambassador was secondary to the secrecy of the mission. Somebody sold Stevens out.
Of course we should do whatever we can to protect our people. I never said otherwise. But the reality is that we rely primarily on the host country to provide the needed protection. And if we believe that they are incapable or unwilling to provide such protection, we should not be there period.
As some who has spent 8 years as a naval officer, including service on an LPH, I understand the capabilities our naval forces provide. But there are limitations, especially with just hours or less of response time required.
The physical security for Benghazi was below standard. The State Department had to sign a wavier, per a law by Congress, to permit our personnel to occupy the facility. Compounding matters the State Department failed to provide the security requested by the post. And finally, it was acknowledged in the State Department internal review on Benghazi that the host country was incapable of providing the needed assistance. Yet, our people were allowed to remain there despite these circumstances. To make matters even worse, there were previous attacks against the Mission and against the UK, the Red Crescent, and the Tunisian diplomatic facilities in Benghazi.
No matter how much lipstick Zip and PIAPS put on this, all indicators will always lead straight to deliberate Treason.
