It seems congressional Republicans may have, once again, been talked off the ledge, and convinced to crawl back in the window on immigration reform. For now, at least, they are off suicide watch. But it seems every year or two the American people need to intervene, grab them by the ear, and drag them kicking and screaming away from the window again. It may be, however, that they're not suicidal after all. Rather, consciously or not, the GOP leadership may have come to realize they're already dead.
The most popular explanation for Republicans' recent support for amnesty has been pressure from big donors in the business community, including the Chamber of Commerce, who are salivating over the prospect of a flood of cheap legal labor. While this explanation is true in large part, a dreadful outlook for the party may also be to blame.
The chances of meaningful Republican control at the federal level for the foreseeable future are dismal, at least as the term "Republican" has been traditionally understood. This is not new; Republican irrelevancy has been growing for a long time. ObamaCare's epic failure to launch may offer the Republicans a boost in 2014, but over the long term the dependency created by the healthcare program will only worsen Republican prospects.

As gloomy as the forecast may appear, the ship can yet be made seaworthy. The truth is on the side of conservatism. The truth, properly wielded, can be an immensely powerful weapon. But the truth will not help you if you cannot expound it, or are too timid and embarrassed to espouse it.
Long live the whigs !!
Step One: Remove/fire the current leaders. Nothing else will get done until Step One is fully implemented.
Well, that's good, because Republicans are missing in action.
Well said.
The republicans need a plan for jobs. That's still the biggest issue facing America, no matter what the phony unemployment numbers published by Government says. Shadowstats.com still has us at 23% unemployment and trending up.
Job's will get people off of Obamacare subsidies, and food stamp subsidies and other subsidies.
Republicans haven't been relevant, not because of people's dependency on the government, but because they've offered nothing different. They are always living the last election and because they lost, they assume they need to be more like the winner. No, they lost because they were too much like the winner. They need to be less like the winner.

The old guard GOP may not be dead but it is lifeless.
Bonehead and his bobblehead buddies are either subversive or they are unbelievably stupid.
Actually, they have a third path; they continue to live on as a token, Potemkin Village opposition, while really supping at the same table as the Democrats. Republicans = Rat junior varsity.
Is the Republican Party already dead?
As far as I’m concerned, yes.
They sure are to me, from the very moment they nominated a flaming liberal with a career long record of supporting abortion.
Well, it’s pretty much dead in my eyes.
Bush pushing amnesty, the nominations of McCain and then Romney, and especially, the backstabbing treatment given Palin.
Killed my lifelong allegiance and support of the Party. Absolutely killed it.
Ooooooh, that smell.
Whig 2.0
PING!
Speaking the Language
The GOP has no one in the leadership who can articulate any benefit to free enterprise, the rule of law, sanctity of contracts, security of borders or any of the principles enunciated in the Declaration or the Constitution. They are not familiar with them, they do not believe them, they do not understand them. To the GOP leadership it is a foreign language. We cannot expect them [and most of us don't] to be able to argue a case in a language they cannot speak.
This is why the "leadership" must - must - be changed. We must have people in the fight who know what the fight is about.
Both parties will be taking a beating in November.
There is only one party, The Party of Government.
As far as my vote goes...hell yes!
