...Obama will sign an executive order on Wednesday to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers to $10.10 an hour starting next year, the White House said.

Reuters, EAGER to engage in the worship of BO, put this in their story and DID NOT CHALLENGE the story :
“The executive order the president will sign today will benefit hundreds of thousands of people,” the White House said in a statement.
“It will also improve the value that taxpayers are getting from the federal government’s investment. Studies show that boosting low wages will reduce turnover and absenteeism, while also boosting morale and improving the incentives for workers, leading to higher productivity overall.”
BAD move Obama.
America does NOT need higher wages.
However we need to be a whole lot more aggressive internationally, to bring back American jobs.
Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.
I’m waiting for the unions to renegotiate their wages keyed to this minimum. Obama is a tricky SOB. He’s perfectly capable of whipping up the parasites who, if they worked, would get minimum wage, while at the same time, making jobs harder for them to find and (his other objective) at the same time boosting the government paid wages of his union supporters.
If he raises the minimum wage for contract workers, then isn’t he increasing federal spending? And aren’t all spending increases supposed to originate in the House?
Those who insist on a minimum wage should be forced to reimburse businesses that are forced to apply them.
When the indonesian/kenyan usuper, der 0berFuhrer, emperor 0bama is removed, ALL ORDERS, LAWS, ACTS, etc. from his regime should be declared NULL and VOID, retroactive to noon Jan 20, 2009!
How many Federal Contract workers work for minimum wage now?
Can’t be that many - anyone know?
who gives a flip?
we need to concentrate attention
on —> Obamacare <—.
It will also improve the value that taxpayers are getting from the federal governments investment. Studies show that boosting low wages will reduce turnover and absenteeism, while also boosting morale and improving the incentives for workers, leading to higher productivity overall.
I just love those satire articles.
well it’s good they passed(well in the house) debt limit because government is going to need the money ,D’oh
Even if there is only one, it doesn't matter. UNION wages are based on Federal Minimum Wage. It goes up, so does theirs.
That is what is at issue.
...and all the government contract workers and unions who pay is linked to the lowest federal pay get a raise!
Obama is a POLITICIAN, and every politician realizes that promoting “a raise for America” is a sure winner at the polls.
Nobody has ever been turned out of office for supporting a hike in the minimum wage.
This has absolutely nothing to do with economics; it has everything to do with winning elections.
Someone is going to bid a contract using the DOL SCA approved rates that are below this $10.10 decree. They will lose the bid and will protest, taking the issue to court. I will be watching
You expect boehner to speak against his lord and master?
No, but I'm curious as a matter of Constitutional law, even though there is no more Constitutional law.
If they were honest, they’d tell you what really happens.
The owner of a business can spend X number of dollars per hour per laborer. When the government does not interfere, the owner employs as many employees as he can to provide good service. Good service equals happy customers and happy customers equal more revenue.
When the government dictates you must pay X+2 dollars per hour per laborer, the business owner is forced to reduce the amount of labor he buys so that it falls within his budget. But, the amount of labor required to provide good service does not decrease with the amount of laborers, leading to greater loads on the remaining workforce. These employees become less happy and provide worse service (at the additional cost dictated by the government). Lower levels of service equal less happy customers and less happy customers give less revenue to the business.
On top of that, in the first example, more employees are making money and the business makes more money. More revenue for laborers and owners equal more taxes paid to the government. The converse is true in the second example.
Our politicians and journalists have no understanding of the labor market.
We are of like minds then... lawlessness perpetrated by lawmakers and law enforcers. George Washington weeps for us.
