Most people are really getting off the subject.

The point of the article is not about the pros or cons of catheters or a lot of the other nonsense and "owchies!".

It is about the senseless beating and near killing of a 70 year old nurse by a younger male patient in one of our large metropolitan hospitals. Is this what we have devolved into in our society?

Is this not a horrendous thing? Where is the outrage? I see little of it in the article. All I see is mild amazement from the staff and another criminal case that will likely be plead down to a light sentence. Meanwhile, if the nurse doesn't die she will likely be maimed for life.

Maybe I missed something in my inattentive youth, but 50 years ago I never heard of such a thing happening in America. Did I miss it?

No, you’re exactly right. It really wasn’t so long ago that something like this would have provoked outrage. Unfortunately, society has deteriorated to the point that beatings of elders and rapes of infants are fairly commonplace.

Insanity is too mild a word for it.

Assaults of nurses have been very common. It is not just one of Obama’s people. It is also elderly assaults on staff due to dementia. It has been a problem for years, and is getting worse. A coarsening of our society.

Actually, violence against nurses is an issue. Just about any nurse can tell you stories. It’s been worse in recent years.

Remember when one of the Kennedy’s kicked a nurse in the abdomen when he tried to take his newborn infant out of the hospital without going through protocol.
