Hundreds of stores across the nation are closing as some of Americas most famous retailers struggle to stay in business. The country is facing what CNBC has labeled a tsunami of store closings and blogger Michael Snyder has called a retail apocalypse.
JC Penney, which lost $586 million in three months in 2013, is planning to close 33 stores in 19 states and lay off 2,000 people. JC Penneys stock has lost 84 percent of its value since February 2012.
Sears has decided to shut down its flagship store in Downtown Chicago, and it has closed 300 stores in the United States since 2010.
Macys, one of the few retail success stories, is planning to close five stores and eliminate 2,500 jobs.
Radio Shack is preparing to close 500 stores, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Best Buy recently closed 50 stores and eliminated 950 jobs at stores in Canada.
Target announced plans to eliminate 475 jobs and not fill 700 empty positions to reduce costs

Sears is also K-Mart, which ticked a lot of people off by thinking singing genitals is a good way to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Plus K-Mart is pretty pro-gay too
Wal Mart is now giving Same Sex couples benefits...so not all pro gay retailers...I guess Wal Mart guess a pass because they are so Free Trade Communist (with gay now too)
This must be all LIES! How can this be? Clown Prince nobama, the all-knowing, said the economy is moving forward. The writer must be a racist.
The retail mentality of the chains brought it upon themselves. Why should I go to the mall for mass-produced merchandise that’s all the same when Amazon offers a sales platform for more individualistic smaller retailers?
The AFA is not nearly tough enough in their standards
“Progressive insurance would be right behind them ...”
Is Flo a lesbian? Who knew.
More likely a product of both.
In a lousy economy even small shifts in purchasing habits and decisions can have big consequences for retailers/sellers. Small scale boycotts end up benefiting from a multiplier effect that makes their impact much larger than it would be in a roaring economy.
Free Traitors have ruined this country. There will be a reckoning.
I like Ebay; excellent stuff that the stores don’t bother to even try to stock at all. I find blouses and pants that are better than the tripe that the stores don’t try to stock.
I mean, the buyers for these stores are supposed to find good stuff, but they aren’t bothering at all. It’s the same old tripe (the young adult stores stock mainly club wear and hooker haute couture) and nothing I’m really interested in anymore.
If these stores stocked good stuff, then there would be people buying, but they aren’t stocking anything other than what Hollywood makes fashionable, which means slutty (skinny) jeans and skin bearing tripe.
Right there; why buy if you don’t have the ability to pay or the real quality materials? Online shopping is a lot less expensive and a lot less of a hassle.
Dump KMart (Sears ?) stock if you have it still .... I have not seen a “clean and well-attended” KMart in 2-1/2 years anywhere in the US in any of about 36 different cities..
Dollar General now carries the same quality and selection of (cheap, Chinese-made) stuff as KMart in more stores. Sears “Might” hang on if Penny’s goes low enough.
K-Mart is a sterile joke of a store. I look forward to their obliteration.
The salespeople at K-Mart are second rate.
The ghetto rats causing disruptions at these malls are a huge part of the closings as well.
I think this has more to do with on-line shopping.
I order just about everything right from my own home.
I’m tracking a package from Amazon right now.
Who needs the hassle of shops, malls, shortage of salespeople, and parking?

Wife likes their soups...
They are not. Jantzen Beach is a huge remodel success as is Mall 205.
