A Highway Patrol trooper who caught another officer speeding to an off-duty job at 120mph is suing for more than $500,000 - saying his allies harassed her after he was fired. Florida's Donna Jane Watts made national headlines after handcuffing Miami Police Department officer Fausto Lopez, while he was in full uniform and driving a police car. Since the incident in 2011 she claims she has had threatening calls on her cell phone, police cars idling outside her house and fellow officers accessing her private driver's license information. Ms Watts - who is suing more than 25 police agencies - said she is even afraid to open her mailbox. Other calls included prank calls and orders for pizza, she claimed. In a lawsuit she said law enforcement officers had long been known to band together and protect each other, but her case took things too far. According to her lawyer, she suspected her private driver's license information was being accessed by fellow officers, so she made a public records request with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. It allegedly showed at least 88 law enforcement officers from 25 different agencies accessed Watts' driver's license information more than 200 times - in just three months. Ms Watts is suing those police agencies and the individual officers under the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act, a 1994 law that provides for a penalty of $2,500 for each violation if the information was improperly accessed. Watts' attorney, Mirta Desir, said it was clear most of the officers had no legitimate reason to look up her data. If all the searches were found illegal, Watts could receive more than $500,000.

A man would know, you don’t handcuff a fellow officer. “...not following the unwritten rules of a male group.”
The above mentality is one reason why Hussein is now a dictator. Screw the unwritten rules of a male group. That kind of group thinking leads to the death of those not in the group.
I’m guessing he let her know REAL GOOD that he was a cop, and that she can’t stop him, and he’s going to get back in his car and get to work and there’s nothing she can do about it, and don’t you know who I am and when I get back....
And THAT is when she put the cuffs on him I’m thinking. It wasn’t for the speeding.
..........I listened to the whole 39 minute video. He was definitely throwing all those whines at her and more.
I think too that the City of Miami Police Department has had more documentaries done on it’s corruption than any other which explains a lot.
Clearly Lopez simply thought he was entitled to go 120mph “becuz I’m a COP”.......
I find the replies humorous. I never said I would distribute another man’s bread. I never said I would allow the baker and his family to be victimized. I only said I would not arrest the poor man.
It is unfortunate that so many are unable to think in terms of yes or no, black or white. There are other appropriate responses depending on the circumstances.
Do you see no contradiction in what you wrote here?
Through offering evidence of sympathy for the 'poor' man, the evidence of sympathy for the impoverished victim is notably absent.
In WWII, German soldiers followed a protocol of never entering a room where sexual intercourse was occurring. Knowing this saved more than a few Allied soldiers lives. If pressed, they would rape a female to avoid capture.
One can appreciate the thought process that preceded the rape, however; rape is wrong and should be punished.
I must be a great actor to fool you. I’m neither a jock or a jock faggot. Maybe you’re tone deaf.
I did not offer sympathy, but empathy.
By comparing a loaf of bread to a woman (or man) being raped is quite a stretch. It is works for you, so be it.
Read and comprehend my previous post.
A thief just stole the baker’s bread, which he was expecting to sell to pay for something else he needed, or feed to his own family.
You’re not going to arrest the thief.
How are the baker and his family not victimized?
What? Where?!!
If being obtuse is an act, please confess so that we may
continue our conversation. If not, I think we are done here.
Anyone else would be cuffed, because you can’t possibly trust the thinking process of a person who behaved the way he did. Does that change because it is a cop?
This is about the Thin Blue Line. Note, these cops are more upset with her, than a cop who chose to endanger numerous innocent people for his own personal benefit. Their attitudes are more telling than that of the officer who actually was speeding.
Driving 120 for no good reason other than you are a cop?
Boot on neck. Shoulder dislocated. Cuffs cutting into his wrists. Spray peppers pray up his nose. Taser his yamsack. Shoot his K-9.
dream on.
Okay. Thanks.

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.”- Mark Twain
I have no problem with people who are leaving our country for obvious reasons. People left Nazi Germany before the SHTF. I have several friends who have left, or want to leave, and move to South America. I would have a problem with them rubbing my nose in it for staying, but I do believe people should prepare to leave if possible... When Anthony Scalia says that internment camps are likely in Americans future, and some conservative Americans still think the 9066 executive order by a progressive ( FDR) was needed, I think we're in for a very rough future. Hopefully we can change course, and avoid any economic collapse. Having said that, I don't begrudge anyone for leaving to protect their families from the coming government crackdown... and it is coming.
Agreed FBD, if one is in a position to find safe passage out of this sinking ship, good for them. It’s their choice.
In regards to your original query as to the ‘pack’ action, I see it’s already been addressed.
You yourself recognize that anyone having left, to rub your nose in it afterwards is quite unbecoming. That is exactly what we experience with this poster, it’s always comments to the effect of ‘dummies, I’m living the life and you are stuck, hardy har har’. Glad you can recognize why the reaction is so strong to said nonsense.
It’s classic passive aggressive in that the shield gets thrown up with the ‘what me? I’m just making a comment and you are all jealous’. With all we are struggling with here, having anyone jab us with such silliness, tends to bring out the desire to defend our choices, our country and one another.
Bragging is so unattractive!
Thank you
Thanks for filling me in. It makes sense now. It does sound like this poster continues to poke at people.
