Dwayne Stovall, a Republican primary candidate for Senate, will drive across Texas to tell you hes more conservative than Sen. John Cornyn and tighter with the tea party than Rep. Steve Stockman.
A former oilfield worker and business owner from Cleveland, Texas, Stovall is one of seven primary challengers for Cornyns seat. With just a few weeks until the March 4 primary, hes crisscrossing the state and reaching out online, having some success raising funds and gaining supporters.
While the outspoken Stockman has claimed the title of the tea party candidate, some tea party groups are going with Stovall, who is much more actively campaigning than the congressman. On Feb. 6, Grassroots America-We the People, a statewide tea party group based in Tyler, endorsed Stovall.
The groups executive director, JoAnn Fleming, said Stovalls constitutional conservative values and opposition to things like Obamacare align perfectly with the group.
As far as were concerned, hes the only viable candidate in the race, Fleming said. She said the group didnt even consider Stockman, citing questions about his campaign finances and tendency to pull provocative stunts.
Some local groups are also enthusiastic about Stovall. Ray Myers, chairman of the Kaufman County Tea Party, says his group has also endorsed Stovall.

I like him.
.......unless you have some solid data to base this opinion on, and if you do I’m all ears, I respectfully dis agree with you.
I say this based upon reports that neither Cornyn or Stockman have won one straw poll of tea partiers and Stovall, conversely, has won them all by wide margins.
With the social media in play, and Internet, word is getting around re hard working, conservative Stovall.
Then, there’s the Palin factor. Her endorsing Stovall and attending a few rallies will get him press he would never get without her.
Bottom line, I predict Corny won’t get a majority and there will be a runoff.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Texas has a runoff primary system. In part one, the ONLY objective is to keep cornball from getting 51% of the vote. I can vote for Mickey Mouse in part 1 and the only important thing is that it was NOT a vote for cornball.
In the runoff, the top 2 candidates go head to head. There is no splitting the vote here, it is chose one or the other.
This system lets everyone vote for their favorite candidate in the opening round. The more people in, the better!
It is between Stovall and Stockman for me, and Stockman has not done a good job of responding to the press attacks. I don’t want a flat footed senator. And if Palin did endorse Stovall, that would carry a lot of weight with me.
A shallow RINO who is desperately attempting to get on networks to advertise his supposed conservative credentials.
John, we learned when Kay Bailey was replaced by Cruz how a real conservative should act.
You are not one.
Didn’t Stockman drop out? Or maybe is in just for the fool’s contributions? Either way we don’t need a clown even a conservative one.
Stovall has my vote. If he makes the runoff, he’ll get my money.
Tom De Lay should challenge Cornyn.
Me too on Palin! If its gonna happen, it should come any day.
Thanks for your comment.
