A University of Missouri star projected to be drafted into the NFL looks set to become the first publicly gay pro football player.
According to interviews with The New York Times and on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" program on Sunday, All-American defensive lineman Michael Sam said he told his teammates last year, Im gay.

No, but he’s been known to chase a tight end.
That’s what the Fascist party doesn’t seem to understand: The majority of the population is not interested in how people they do not know, have no interest in knowing, get off under the sheets. It’s like forcing people to watch someone take a dump in the morning, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in how someone cuts a loaf and wipes themselves, yet the Fascist party constantly constantly constantly demands I look. Like the gay pride parades..What is the purpose of this? Is there a heterosexual parade they are competing with? Are they trying to recruit new members? There is no purpose whatsoever to a gay pride parade other than the Fascists once again demanding the people take an interest in what they do under the sheets even though the people have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever. I use to live in New York city and knew a lot of gays, and that was fine I told them, just don’t shove your sexuality in my face because I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever.
So the faggie footballer sashays into the shower and his teammates leave in a stampede to get out. Will this make the nightly `hate crime’ news on MSNBC?
So what. Who cares? What is he looking for? Some special reward.
“If you led the SEC with 11.5 sacks and 19 tackles for losses?” he said, laughing.
“If a gay person did that, I wouldn’t call that person weak.”
Just last week, he said, he came out to his parents, during a phone call.
“I told my mom and dad last week, and they just pretty much said, ‘We knew and we love
you and support you,’ “ he said. “I’m their baby boy. I’m the first to go to college.
I’m the first to graduate college. Something like this is just another milestone.

I wonder if all this stuff with gay and marriage is for attention. Good luck to him on the field. Big Bullseye...
“The media is THRILLED that someone who practices sodomy is going to be on the gridiron. Aren’t you?”
No, no I’m not — I love football and the thought of some pickle kisser sucking all the oxygen out of the room disgusts me.
There are ONLY four teams in my opinion that can suffer this non-sense - They are the Jets, Giants, Seahawks, and 49ers. The four markets that have embraced this BS.
I remember being a kid in the 70’s and we used to play a game called smear the queer on the playground...huh, who knew.
Freaking ESPN spent half of a Sports Center breaking this story. I was about ready to throw my shoe through the TV.
He's not first round material, that's for sure. He doesn't fit in to a 3-4 alignment. He is undersized. He is, by all accounts, a very smart player but still it's a good year for defensive ends. Third round or later like I said. If someone took him in late second then it's because they're really desperate for DEs or making a poltiical statement on this whole 'gay player' thing.
“The majority of the population is not interested in...”
Homosexuality is an obsession that dominates their waking hours and which ISOLATES them from normal society. They have long since lost their sense of proportionality.
yep, basically a no cut contract. any team would have to be nuts to take on such a distraction. I predict Minnesota drafts him in the 1st round and if it turns out he can't play, they give him a paid position in "community relations" or something
It will be interesting to track his career from this point, in that he has set himself apart as a “different chicken”.
When a flock has a chicken that is different, they often peck it to death.
Of course, the obvious thing is that players from other teams will decide to injure him. But the flip side of this is that he has set himself apart from his own team as an individual, not a team player. They don’t like that.
The lifespan of a rank and file NFL player is typically not long. So maybe he figures this will either protect him from being cut from the team, by claiming bias, or if he is cut, he can get a job elsewhere.
He has become a lawsuit waiting to happen.
In future, the NFL would be foolish to not include a contract clause that such disclosures cannot be made without the permission of the team owners. Their attorneys will be remiss if they do not insist on it.
Goodell’s got the NFL circling the bowl anyway. The celebration of all things “gay” will just hasten the demise of the league.
The question then, is what will replace all of the revenue the NFL used to generate.
Exactly ... in addition to his predilection for unnatural acts, and his apparent failure to understand biology ... he's a drama queen. It's all about "MEEEEEEEEEEE".
Not the sort of person I want on my team.
Only One Condition: He has his own private locker room and shower facility. Maybe with the cheerleaders.
Second Condition: (I know) Not allowed to date other team members.
“Monday Night Rehab”?
What an idiot. He should have waited until he signed a big-buck contract and THEN came out of the closet. Now he’s limited his opportunities, I’m sure. What a bonehead.
Make no mistake...this was a calculated move on Sam’s part.
He is a great college defensive player; in fact, he was co-Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC. But for the NFL, he’s a “tweener.” Not big enough to play DT, not really tall enough for DE and too slow to play OLB. The draft experts put him at no higher than a third round pick.
By coming out before the combine, Sam actually enhances his standing. The NFL will privately “encourage” a team to draft an openly gay player, and there are some “progressive” teams (like the Patriots) who would be happy to oblige. Then, once Sam is in camp, how do you cut the league’s first openly gay player, knowing that it will unleash a media firestorm. Under those circumstances, I can see teams keeping Sam (or putting him on the practice squad) just for public relations value. Likewise, if Sam doesn’t make a roster, he can claim homophobia.
Put another way: Michael Sam’s NFL career (barring injury) will be much longer than if it was based on his talent alone. But he will be a pariah in the locker room; homophobia rules in most NFL club houses. I just finished reading “Collision Low Crossers,” an interesting look at a year in the life of an NFL team (the New York Jets). As I recall, the team has a “two stall rule” at the urinals, meaning you must leave a one-urinal gap between two guys taking a leak at the same time.
Good luck in that environment, Mr. Sam.

That is just a simple “man law.”
