Most of the assembly members in the states are socially pathological commies.

To an extent, true.

I just think there are not enough state legislatures to go for it.

Also opens the door to possible dangerous decisions......

You missed my other point. We’re circling the toilet as it is. It might “backfire,” in which case we still go down the toilet.

We have NOTHING to lose by trying.

Lee’sGhost in #43 sums it up.

Even if an amendment convention was dangerous (it isn't) what is there to lose? America 2014 is a police state and the screws tighten every day. There is every reason to take the sorts of measures our founding generation took. Thank God they bequeathed to us a peaceful way to address grievances.

There is more resistance among the states than we realize, it just never makes the news. Over half the states opposed Obamacare in court, they all chafe under unfunded mandates, they can't defend their borders and are ordered to pay social services for foreigners. There is plenty of outrage among the states that crosses the red/blue divide.

Yes. Lots of truth there.

I just don’t believe it will happen - apart from a miracle - which I do believe in......

Now then - what do we do with the actual majority of voting citizens who have a Marxist world view? Who will keep voting Marxist?

Yeah we do, we still have the Bill of Rights now which means we have the upper hand morally if the final check and balance becomes necessary.

Now the 2 Fatal Flaws to this idea.

1. We already have the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 9th and 10th; they ignore them - So what is your basis for presuming they will obey more Constitutional restrictions on them when they ignore the ones already existing?

2. There is no reason to believe that there are enough patriots in positions of power so that an article 5 Convention will not end up being a God-Send for the Marxists. See eliminating the Above.

The best outcome is a purge of DC at the polls.

If it can be achieved, that would be a start, but the ranks of hired and appointed bureaucratic gnomes living and working within the fedgov beast also need to be evacuated.

There's no guaranteed return to republican freedom. It may well be far, far too late to effect reform.

But that is no reason not to try. If adults in the state legislatures do one thing, repeal the 17th, all else is possible. Re-federalizing the consolidated government is the key to reform. Without it, little of substance can be accomplished. With it, all good things are possible, and it won't matter how many Marxists occupy the House of Reps.

The only way to rid ourselves of this beast is to close down govt agencies.

How?

It seems that repeal of the 17th would only be the first step, with many vital steps afterwards necessary.

I am not opposing such a move, and would support it. We need to be realistic to know that many huge battles would follow a win on that one.

I do think it’s far too late to reform. As many have said, the problem wasn’t the election of Obama for ‘12 - it was the mass of brainwashed idiots who put him in office a 2nd time after his true colors became known to all in his first 4 years.......indicating the state of our nation.....

I suspect the media will recognize the threat we present after the next assembly of the states this coming June. All hell will break lose in a coordinated attack. Fine, since we're currently headed for disaster, let's have that debate over first principles. Independents will be reminded of a heritage they perhaps forgot, and the radical left will have to defend what they've done. At least I hope so, there is no telling how events will develop leading up to a convention.

Have you read Levine’s book? If not, he goes into great detail addressing your issues.

The short answer is, these would not be Constitutional restrictions as you frame them. They (the Liberty Amendments) are about putting power back into the hands of the states and by extension, closer to the people. The Constitution means nothing if no one will enforce it...which is what we have now. The LA would both reduce Obama’s dictatorial grabs and increase ability of states to override his edicts. That means the dynamics would change. Instead of the POS POTUS hiding behind interpretations of Constitutional law which Republican CONGRESS members won’t challenge, the POS POTUS would be blatantly defying law clearly passed by the people for specific reasons leaving nothing to hide behind. Now, that could still happen, but there would be NO gray area. He would be declaring himself dictator.

There’s a lot more to the LA than the above, but that’s the part that applies to your issue. There is no fatal flaw to this idea. The choice is, our Republic will certainly die if something does not change. The Republic might die if we try to change it...but at least we can try. It will be exercised in the same spirit that created the USA...but it is up to us this time. Do we defend what our Founding Fathers wrought, or do we roll over and let the Obamunists take it without a fight?

I know what side I’m on.

Nothing you said addressed the fatal flaws I identified. Presuming they can be overcome by some kind of magic which is not present in the real world is insufficient to avoid playing into the Marxists’ hands.

Again, they are ignoring the restrictions already present - nothing indicates they will obey any new ones. And, its unrealistic with the current shape of the country to expect an Article 5 Convention will result in what what you hope for - at best its 50/50 it will go to the Marxist agenda.

No disrespect but history shows that a less then 10% uprising is sufficient; From the around 10% active in the first civil war to the IRA, to the small number of relatively small number of Taliban today, etc.

The vast majority of people will go along with whoever controls the press.
