HKonJ: Thousands march in downtown Raleigh

RALEIGH — State NAACP President William J. Barber II laid out goals for a diverse coalition of groups Saturday afternoon at a rally attended by thousands of people from all over the state and the nation who marched, sang, chanted, cheered and even danced through downtown Raleigh.

Organizers said the “Mass Moral March” was intended to push back against last year’s Republican-led legislation in North Carolina.

Barber called for well-funded public education, anti-poverty policies, affordable health care for all that includes the expansion of Medicaid, an end to disparities in the criminal justice system on the basis of class and race, the expansion of voting rights and “the fundamental principle of equality under the law for all people.”

“We will become the ‘trumpet of conscience’ that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called upon us to be, echoing the God of our mothers and fathers in the faith,” he said. “Now is the time. Here is the place. We are the people. And we will be heard.”

The mammoth crowd that gathered in downtown Raleigh represented a variety of causes that joined last year’s Moral Monday protests, but the event also brought in groups and individuals usually on the fringes of state politics.

Susan Fariss of Mocksville drove three and a half hours to hold up a sign supporting the legalization of medical marijuana.

“I have several health problems that cause me pain,” Fariss said. “I have tried Vicodin and different muscle relaxers, but no matter what I’ve tried, I’m in pain. My doctor told me he could not prescribe it, but he recommended medical marijuana.”

Ironically, the group’s list of “Important Do’s and Don’ts for Marchers” includes bringing a photo ID.

“DO bring photo identification (drivers’ license, passport or other valid photo id) with you and keep it on your person at all times,” the document says. The website offers several downloadable documents, including the “Moral March Map,” bus registration, permission and medical forms and the “Do’s and Don’ts” list.

And not one has said a thing about the fact Obamacare requires an ID to collect subsidies.. More Obama like transparent in their corruption.They are more than willing to get ID cards for food stamps and welfare.

Wow. Is Mr Barber really that stupid or has he been living under a rock for the past several decades? We pour good money after bad into the public school system as nothing changes. There was actually a “war on poverty”run by the Government for decades. Result? We have more poor people. Affordable Healthcare? I would be willing to bet Mr Barber voted for Obama. Twice. According to Obamacare we now have affordable health care.If more blacks are commiting criminal acts then more blacks will be arrested and jailed. No other way the system can work......

They bussed and flew in people from all over the country for this march. I can’t wait for the next slew of conservative legislation coming to NC this year. Love it!

Barber called for well-funded public education; i.e., working people pay for slackers

anti-poverty policies; i.e., working people pay for slackers;

affordable health care for all; working people pay for slackers;

an end to disparities in the criminal justice system on the basis of class and race; that is, minority criminals are allowed to skate;

the expansion of voting rights; in other words, illegals get the franchise;

and “the fundamental principle of equality under the law for all people”; translation: special privileges for racial minorities and those on the Left.

In other words, an enormous load of crap - but the sort of hot-button crap that everyone’s swallowing these days.

It would almost be worth moving to NC to support people who will enact into law the next round of legislation. After all, it’s only common sense.

Black America has not prospered because Black America has basically abolished the nuclear family, which is the best guard against poverty. Most of the guys in jail have no father. The men who sired them are drones, who drop their seeds and then disappear. as far as their sons are concerned, they are as good as dead. Now the white population is starting to go down the same road.

an end to disparities in the criminal justice system on the basis of class and race;

Black crime is up, arrest more white folk.
And not just the poor ones.

Love it!

You bet!

We finally have decent conservative government in this state that is working. Lower income taxes, lower unemployment.
Its not perfect but its a helluva lot better than it was under the dumblecrats.

That it ticks off the gibmedats is a sweet bonus.
