Governor Cuomo announces more than $130,000 in shooting range grants

In the midst of all the controversy about the tighter gun laws in New York, Governor Cuomo is announcing over $130,000 being given out to shooting ranges.

The money comes as part of the "New York Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative". One hundred thirty five thousand dollars in grants will be going to 13 shooting ranges, including $6,700 to the Lima Gun Club in Livingston County.

State leaders say the hunting and fishing programs help to make people more familiar with guns and archery in order to promote safe and ethical hunting in New York.

Looks like Governor Cuomo feels the need to throw some chump change to a handful of rod and gun clubs. I hadn't realized that the Fudd vote was that much a factor in NY politics.

I liked the one comment on the story that said "But wait, how many “”Repeal Safe Act – Cuomo’s Gotta Go” signs will that pay for?"

I love ranges, but tax money shouldn’t be paying for them. $130k is nothing. I couldn’t see this going to many ranges at all, assuming there aren’t many state hoops/roadblocks to make the funds accessible in the first place.

Shooters need to be left alone by Don Cuomo, not given handouts.

Is this a trend---when libs get caught w/ their pants down, they snuggle up to guns (cackle).

Gov Blowmo was lacerated for saying he didn't want conservatives in his state.

Abortion Barbie lied about her bgrnd---then strikes a somewhat awkward political pose w/ a shotgun.

There is a Federal tax, passed in 1937, that taxes sporting goods, firearms, and ammunition, that in part is required by Federal law to fund shooting ranges. The money is provided to the states, who in turn are supposed to use it for building or improving shooting ranges. Naturally, of course, some states don't spend the money on shooting ranges, and no one has ever called them on it.

The laws shall mean what liberal Democrats say they shall mean, and nothing more. Lewis Carroll was a prophet, not a writer of fiction.

Beware of the Marxist that acts pro-gun before an election when they have been anti-gun all long. Its a trap.

I wouldn’t be AT ALL surprised to find out that the federal tax money from sporting goods, firearms, and ammo goes to anti-gun, anti-hunting, animal rights, and left wing environmental groups.

REFERENCE Cuomo's Social Engineering as HUD Chief Contributed to Subprime Crisis / originally published on Examiner.com

---SNIP---In 1993 President Bill Clinton appointed Andrew Cuomo (now NY governor) to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as Assistant Secretary. In 1997 Cuomo took over as HUD chief replacing Clinton appointee Henry Cisneros. During Cisneros tenure he championed Clinton's goal of social engineering within the housing market forcing lenders to issue loans to those that would not financially qualify for the lending.

Cisneros left office in a scandal involving lying to the FBI over payouts to a mistress, Cisneros subsequently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and though never sent to prison received a pardon from Bill Clinton in 2001.

Andrew Cuomo took the HUD reins and not only furthered Cisneros and Clinton's policies but greatly expanded them.

Henry Cisneros moved the GSEs toward a requirement that 42 percent of their mortgages serve low and moderate income families. Andrew Cuomo raised that number to 50 percent and dramatically hiked GSE mandates to buy mortgages for the "very-low-income."

These bad loans were purchased and sold throughout the secondary market and the pyramid grew and the bottom collapsed resulting in the subprime crisis we are still reeling from today.

In 2008, the Village Voice published a compelling report detailing Andrew Cuomo's policy decisions "that gave birth to the country's current crisis."

The report touched on how Cuomo's 187-page rules "opened the door to abuse." The rules explicitly rejected the idea of imposing any new reporting requirements on the GSEs. In other words, HUD wanted Fannie and Freddie to buy risky loans, but the department didn't want to hear just how risky they were.

Many New York voters have been distracted by the gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino's racist joke email forwards, what some are failing to see is the actual harm to the minority community directly caused by Cuomo's policies...and that is no laughing matter.

Cuomo's top aide said, "We believe that there are a lot of loans to black Americans that could be safely purchased by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac if these companies were more flexible." Andrew Cuomo doubled down and had this to say about his HUD standards, "GSE presence in the subprime market could be of significant benefit to lower-income families, minorities, and families living in underserved areas."

How's that working out for the minority community, where foreclosures and unemployment rates have hit the hardest as a result of such failed policies and blatant social engineering?

I disagree. Sportsmen pay a butt load of taxes, many of them specifically gathered for purposes just like this. Truth be told, their taxes are probably being severely misappropriated by the likes of Mayor Homo.

I don’t know a single gun owner in NY who is willing to go to a gun range anymore after this idiotic SAFE Act passed.

That’s because I don’t know a single gun owner in NY who intends on complying with said idiotic SAFE Act.

Regards,

New York is almost at its constitutional limit to borrow. It has the highest taxes in the US, and Il Duce and the legislature do NOTHING to change it. The state is dying.

My taxes pay for a majority of things that should not be supported by the government—eviction prevention for AIDS patients, legal services for the ‘poor’, housing, medicaid, food stamps, affordable housing construction, pension for politicians, free healthcare for life for many public sector retirees, daycare for single mothers (more than one child gets you a discount), construction projects at state and community colleges where there are no academic standards and illegal aliens pay the same as American citizens, cars and gas for elected officials, meal stipends for elected officials, etc.

This is il duce’s futile attempt to think that the gun owners in upstate NY will actually vote for him. He must think that they’re stupid.

Tax money isn’t paying for them. This is moneny collected from hunting fees, which by law must go directly back to the shooting sports.

“I love ranges, but tax money shouldn’t be paying for them.”

If they take the money they may have to divulge information
about their clientele. Gun safety is the last thing the
tards want. Prohibition is the goal so how can this be used
for that purpose? Rember all liberal democrats lie like
an Obama. There has to be a scheme here and I’m sure safety
isn’t it.

Coumo isn't "giving" anything to anyone. It's our money gleaned from a federal excise tax levied on manufacturers of hunting and fishing equipment. If anything, he should pony up considerably more than a paltry $130K. What's he done with the rest of that money? The excise taxes are collected quarterly from outdoor industry manufacturers and importers for sales on items such as fishing lures, rods and reels, firearms, ammunition and other products. Hunting-, shooting- and fishing-related taxes are collected under the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act and Sport Fish Restoration Act respectively.

Funding is then apportioned to state and territorial fish and wildlife agencies based on land area and state fishing and hunting license sales. Agencies combine these funds with the license revenues to conserve fish and wildlife and their habitats and create recreational and educational opportunities. In 2009 alone, more than $740 million was made available to states and territories in addition to the nearly $1.4 billion total paid by hunters and anglers in license fees.

I wouldnt be surprised if the money came with a requirement to notify the police of anyone violating the safe act on range property.
