Oh, I just realized I didn't make myself clear. He was a priest, Father Sullivan. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't a wild man at any time of his life.
He spent a LOT of time breaking up steady relationships because of "an occasion to sin."
Not many kids liked him, and he could be petty and show one-upmanship against 15-18 year old kids. I pretty much hated him because he was
a lot like my horrible oldest brother, who did the same sort of stuff to me when I was a young child, but with physical and emotional abuse
added like arm-twisting and berating me for not being as smart as he was. He was 14-1/2 years older and expected me to be a genius at 8 or 9.

I have a few siblings who are not terribly pleasant to be around as well. I’ve often wondered if that’s why those “perfect” family shows have been so popular. Everyone wanted to believe that it was possible.
