It is the reason why my father did not name my oldest brother after himself. He was a “junior” and hated it, so he gave my brother another name.

My oldest brother wasn’t my father’s son anyway, so calling him “John Doe III” would have been pointless and untrue in any case.

My husband has the same first name as his father, but is called a variation of it, so it wasn’t a problem.
