Markeyo Carr had grabbed a few bucks from his mother and headed to the McDonald's in Rogers Park for something to eat. Minutes later, the 17-year-old lay dead in a driveway near the restaurant, shot by a masked gunman who wounded three other teens.
Police say the four teens were in the parking lot of the McDonald's at 6740 N. Clark St. around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when there was an argument and then gunfire. Carr was shot in the head and collapsed in a driveway next to a strip mall with a pizza restaurant, a dental office and a dollar store.
A girl, about 15, was shot several times and apparently ran into a bathroom in the McDonald's, authorities said. She and an 18-year-old man shot in the lower back were taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in serious condition.
Another 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the arm walked into Weiss Memorial Hospital saying he had been shot at the McDonald's, authorities said.

Kelly became an advocate of tighter gun laws after a lone gunman critically wounded Giffords, then an Arizona congresswoman, in 2011. Six people were killed and 13 others injured in the attack.
"He's motivated," said Sen. Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, the sponsor of Senate Bill 1551, and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is holding the hearing."We're trying to keep guns out of people's hands who are likely to misuse them."

Maybe Kelly should head over to Chicago ,and make his pitch about gun control and how it will help Chicago ,be safer for everyone.
Story doesn’t ring true. The required background check, required bribes to local officials, the required license to purchase a gun, training requirements, etc. would have made it impossible for such an irresponsible lone gunman to possess a weapon. Wounds were possibly from an automatic assault knife or sharp barbed taunts from the attacker.
I’m trying to figure out why this is a story coming out of Chicago???? doesn’t this happen several times a day?
Maybe if they had said ‘17 year old killed and left for dead in the street, 3rd time this week and it is only Tuesday.
With abortions killing off the preborn and murder killing kids off before adulthood, I would think that Chicago would have to start importing kids to fill market demand.
The Tribune does and excellent job keeping the public informed of the murderous state of Chicago. Their map of murders is and excellent red line district for visitors...it should be in every GPS to keep you out of trouble.
Whatever their motivation..be it gun control..they do keep score.
One cannot put that info in a gps unit. that would be racis.
This is tragic. Really tragic. The truth is that if you live within the wrong districts of Chicago, you are at risk of premature death. Even infants have been killed by stray bullets. Even more tragically, in many cases it is children killing children.
This isn’t about gun control. It’s about the loss of respect for life - any life. While the extreme left (and I include the current administration and many in Congress) is diligently working against any mainstream role of religion in American society, American society suffers the devastating effects of having a diminishing belief in the sanctity of life, and a diminished sense of meaning in life.
When I left Chicago in 1969, this was a very good neighborhood. In fact, we lived about 2 blocks north at 6963 N. Clark. From what I can deduce, there is no longer any safe place in Chicago. You are right in your assessment of where the problem really lies.
