HUNTSVILLE, Texas A woman convicted of torturing and killing a mentally impaired man she lured to Texas with the promise of marriage was put to death Wednesday evening in a rare executionof a female prisoner.
The lethal injection of Suzanne Basso, 59, made the New York native only the 14th woman executed in the U.S. since the Supreme Court in 1976 allowed capital punishment to resume. Almost 1,400 men have been put to death during that time.

[ Jack Levin, who has the title of a Criminologist (IIRC), said a handful of years ago that many people are reluctant to execute women. He gave the expected reasons. ]
If we executed people for killing people and executed one woman for every man executed we would be executing women for traffic offenses if we wanted to adhere to the precious liberal socialist government quota....
They probably do that in Saudi Arabia which is why the libs love Saudi Arabia so damned much...
.
Come down to Texas from New York and kill somebody and Texas will kill you back.
They did this same crap in the 70s. The phone company had to hire women. You’d see at least two trucks on every job so there would be a man there to carry the ladder.
Well, the GOP would probably be wise to answer that one with Sarah Palin.
If you want to win a cat fight, it helps to have a cat in the fight.
Meantime, until some sanity takes hold again, I’d ask our dear liberals why they hate diversity of gender but love it of just about anything else. Oh wow, the gay guy, the black lady, the Hispanic limbo dancer, all give you a beneficially different point of view. And granted, they could. Even the gay (at least the old fashioned kind that kept it in the closet). But now they want to erase that diversity... what gives. Hey get with the PLAN, folks.
I sometimes wonder if more heinous things also HAPPEN in Texas. Due to festering troubles of the kinds of things that tend to plague the South. The South gave us rednecks but the South also gave us some of the worst bums you ever saw.

Because when you actually look at what garners executions in Texas, versus what results in mundane life prison sentences... the executions really do tend to go to people who have not just killed on purpose, but who have been fiends beyond our worst nightmares. That’s a side of the Texas death penalty issue we don’t see a lot of attention paid to.
Most of the notorious serial killers hail from the north - two of the most prolific serial killers were products of Washington state.
IIRC, Carla Faye Tucker. The libs pulled out all the stops on that one. Professionally produced long theatrics of how sweet Carla Faye had gotten religion, etc. etc.
Not one picture or detailed description of the axe murder she committed.
You beat me to it. The outcry for Execution Sexual Equality should be deafening. Yet crickets are all we hear.
I’m an electrician, and up here we have one female in my company. She is about as useful as a block of ice in a blizzard. The fact is we’re not equal and men are better at some things while woman are better at some things. We have strengths and weaknesses. I just wish women would stop trying to be men.
I guess the occupations in which women best aren't prestigious in American society. And that's not about everyday life, in arts one can see the same. Being equal isn't being the same.
I think a woman who stays home and raises the kids is very prestigious. It’s all a matter of perception I suppose. Here in northern Alberta, lots of women stay home.
Perhaps we need more female doctors, I’m 38, so soon I’ll have to go for those exams lol. I think I’d rather have a woman with real small fingers than a giant doctor with sausage fingers.
It is prestigious when there're films and books about such mothers as role models, not G.I. Janes.
Well, I know one thing for certain, when my wife gets to where I am here with our kids, she’ll be staying home until the youngest is in school (private Christian school), and then if she wants to work, she can, but probably wouldn’t make much sense to.
She’s still doing an important job, keeping a household running in my opinion is a full time job and one that should be highly respected.
May God bless you and your family - another good family which, no doubt, will produce some good people for the next generation.
needle is to good for scum like this. Texas needs old sparky back.
“... keeping a household running in my opinion is a full time job and one that should be highly respected”.
You just made my day, Bulwyf! Smooches!!!
