My dad had an old Ford pick up he parked at the lake...for haulin wood, and driving to fishing holes....poor thing “had cancer” (rust due to salt from hard winters)...a few chewed up spots from mice using it for their personal condo...but that baby would chug along just fine. Hell, that was the highlight of the trips to the lake for the young lads....seeing if one of them could get it to start without flooding the engine ...but MOM had to drive it, because I did not have the patience to teach underage boys how to drive a standard transmission—hell, their feet couldnt hit the gas, let alone the clutch!
I remember coming back from Japan and buying a spankin new 1981 Chevy Blazer Silverado. LOVED that baby!
what was also awesome was the folk who only bought “ the vehicle on the show room floor “
on the grandfathers farm he has a 1967 International Harvester pick up....0 to 60 in about 3 days
“...1981 Chevy Blazer...”

I know a guy still driving one - fully restored.
Great truck.
hey...I had an 81 Chevy Blazer Silverado
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Was yours silver/gray with white vinyl roof? Gray leather interior?
he had slight dents in the front fenders cause the cows wouldn’t move when he would thow hay

Yeah, that brings back another memory.
When you could actually place a down payment and
have one built for you: interior color; exterior color;
engine; and pick-and-choose your options.
Before efficiencies pushed them to only offer “packages”.
nope...blue w/ white interior
I look good in blue
lol
and after orderin...finally the call...Mr so and so....your VIN number is........ we started the build yesterday
ANother fond memory was bewing on active duty, and you could order your custom car from Detroit and pay just abit above the cost to build it.....my first EVER brand new car was a 76 metallic blue MonteCarlo....I had the car exactly 2 months, and I got orders overseas .....so had my uncle sell it.
I remember when Mark did this interview!!

I still remember Old man Boyd that ran the dealership.
You could sit with the brochure and pick out what you wanted,
pay him 10% down so he was pretty sure it was sold as soon as it came in.
If it was something particularly hideous in his mind,
he would make you put more money down, so he would be more
sure that he didn’t get stuck trying to sell some monstrosity.
The typical buyer was low-mid income; the typical car was a Cadillac.
Dr. G. was PAWNED!
