Wow, that’s interesting too.
People don’t know history. The internment of the Japanese-Americans was wrong and even J. Edgar Hoover opposed it. He felt that the FBI had control over the small number of pro-Emperor devotees in the US (and basically did).
The government also rounded up over 5,000 German agents, citizens and non-citizen residents in both the US and from throughout Latin America where Germany had established many spy/sabotage operations, business fronts, and “friendship” societies”.
The “intelligence” on most of them was pretty accurate though a few were probably just non-involved citizens of German descent.
Over 1,000 Italians of various immigration statuses were also rounded up, mainly in the U.S. including Italians on Italian ships in port when war was declared against the Axis.
NOW, what most of you don’t know is that there was a very significant number of German (and a few Italian)/Americans who were extremely pro-Germany, pro-Hitler and pro-Nazi in the U.S.
FBI, ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence), industrial security agents, and local/state police intelligence units not only had lists of known “Bundists” and alien Germans, but also had thousands, if not tens of thousands of investigations of “suspect” people in the war industries.
When reading the govt reports on these “suspects”, it became very clear that they were thoroughly investigated for loyalty to the US and that the majority of them were cleared of any disloyalty, despite statements/suspicions against them.
However, a significant number (I don’t really know it, but estimate that it would number around 1,000 or more), were actually working against the U.S., often by sabotaging machinery and goods in the war industries. Others burned railroad bridges, set fire to warehouses, supplies, etc.
Some were arrested as enemy agents; others were reassigned in their jobs or banned from working in war industries.
This is an area of history that has not been thoroughly explored by historians. The sheer amount of reports that one would have to look at is in the thousands to tens of thousands of pages, or more, depending on what you are reading. Some ONI reports on German Agents in Latin America range up to 50-75 pages plus photos, exhibits etc.
And I’m not even mentioning the investigation of American Communists in both labor unions and spy rings in American
industry. Between 1933-41+, communists were deliberately behind many labor strikes (some justified, many not), which hurt the war effort.
A lot of old names show up in the Military Intelligence files, and some of these red leaders were later to show up in the leadership of the Hanoi Lobby and the Anti-Defense Lobby movements. Their only loyalty was to the Soviet Union and Stalin.
The number of documents concerning labor problems in MI files must be over 5,000 pages or more based on the few hundred that I have been able to review so far.
Since Russia was our “ally” during WW2, American Communists were handled differently than the Germans and Italians living here or in Latin America.
Unlike the Japanese-Americans, these people were a real threat to the survival of the United States, a story that has not been told honestly or fully by most historians (there are a few exceptions in the organization Historians of American Communism, HOAC).
As for unknown Soviet spy rings in the US during the 1940’s and even 50’s, there is evidence that a number of them in the government were missed, often by individual communists being covered up by liberals or communist dupes; others by higher ranking communists within the goverment hierarchy.
Whitaker Chambers ( who I met), Elizabeth Bentley, and Soviet defectors Krivitsky, Gourenzko, and the Venona papers all showed this to those who would listen and read.
Obama might have some plans for interning “conservative” Americans “clinging to their guns and bibles”, but if we turn it around, we will need camps to contain the Jihadists and their supporters here in America, not to mention the estimated 7-10,000 Communists and marxists who are working everyday to bring down our constitutional government, one way or another.
The Cold War never ended, only went into its’ next phase, while a new war of Islamic extremism began against US in the 1970s’ and 80’s, but was not recognized as such until Bin Laden and Al Qaeda were identified and targetted.
My position is, if you are going to intern someone, make sure it is the “enemy” of America, not the “defenders”.
Unfortunately for us, Comrade Obama and his whitey-hating Attorney General have targeted the “defenders”, not the “enemies” (some of whom worked for them as White House advisors or DOJ attorneys).
Perhaps Justice Scalia wasn’t just whistling in the wind, because he knows “which way the wind is blowing”.
Re “every Japanese man, woman and child (citizen, resident or illegal) on the West Coast was interned”.
Basically correct.
However, Japanese/Japanese Americans living elsewhere were allowed to stay and to work, often in war industries, or agricultural industries esp. on the East Coast.
Some were allowed to join the Army as interpretors and possibly radio intercept operators. Most combat soldiers were sent to Europe where any residual resentment against them would be minimal (i.e. the 442nd).
A few were sent to the Pacific, as were the Navaho code-talkers, Indian volunteers in the Army/Navy.
If the old Hollywood adage of “Location, Location, Location” had any real meaning, it was to those Japanese/Americans who lived on the West Coast at the start of WW2.
As I recall, most Japanese living in Hawaii were not interned. They might have been required to register with the military, depending on their citizenship or resident alien status, but I don’t remember any major roundup there (a few saboteurs and spies were arrested after Pearl Harbor).
Another area of history that needs more work.
Fascinating. So, just because my brain isn’t sharp, which way do you perceive Scalia thinks the wind is blowing?
(IMHO I think the wind has changed and the leftistpukes are going to be playing defense soon.)
However, Reaper Dude, let's not forget that quite a few thousand Americans with ties to Germany, Austria, Italy, Rumania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, etc. were also interned.... while other relatives were fighting their ass off for us. Even Joe Dimaggio's dad, with 3 sons in the US Army, had his fishing boat confiscated!
We are at war with militant Islam. Round'em up.
Yo Tony, how come you can shoot your mouth off about this and you can't get us a ruling on what a "Natural Born Citizen" is?
hOW'S ABOUT GETTING YOURSELF AND THREE OF YOUR FELLOW BLACK-ROBED BUMKISSERS OFF THEIR ASS TO TAKE AN APPEAL ON THE ONLY MATTeR THAT MATTERS IN THE LAST DECADE?
fORGIVE ALL CAPS ping!
Anyone from an Axis allied country was rounded up in the US duringf WW2. I just talked about those whose files I have read.
Boats were confiscated, yes. So were short-wave radios in the possession of aliens and even som citizens.
It was total war and our govt acted in the manner that they thought was appropriate. This does not mean that it did the right thing, got the right person, etc.
It was the ability of the FBI and Military Intelligence to check out thousands of people that made the program much more accurate.
Unless you have a communist/Stasi type program, you will never be able to keep track of the “enemy”.
The problem with militant Islamists is that we were asleep at the wheel despite the best efforts of Steve Emerson, Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Brigette Gabrielle, Pam Geller, Walid Shoebat and even Glenn Beck, to point out where and who some of the supporters of “jihad” were, such as CAIR, ICNA, MSA, etc.
For decades some of us tried to tell the public where the communists were, what their fronts were named, how they operated, and their ties to the Soviet Union, Cuba, the Sandinistas, etc.
In fact, I worked for a newsletter that went to 500 police departments around the country. They could not do their own intell work but they were allowed to receive unsolicited materials. That is why when I did the INDEX to the issues, every 6 months, I named “names” so that they could readily be matched to radicals coming into a new area.
A few others also did this type of investigative research and writing, but were almost totally ignored by the mainstream media.
Fortunately Glenn Beck was able to put all this together, with his famous black boards and exhibits, so that the American people could see the SOROS subversive network and its ties to the Democrats and White House.
Trevor Loudon, a New Zealander researcher on the American Left, has written two massive books entitled “The Enemies Within” (including Congress), that names names, has photos, copies of documents etc, that updates all this.
The other great work on marxist influences on government and the media is Steve Powell’s “Covert Cadre: Inside the Institute for Marxist Studies”, the only major study of this KGB-connected organization that had ties right into the Carter and Clinton “White Houses”.
All we can do, as private citizens, is to research and write up our findings. It is up to the govt agencies to do the rest, and under our present Attorney General and recent heads of the FBI (from Freeh to Comy), they have really fucked up in many cases [Some agents and prosecutors have been fantastic but they don’t run the show, and Holder isn’t going after Obama’s Moslem buddies anytime soon).
The point of all this is that you’ve got to know your enemy, not imaginary ones. Precise information is needed, whether by informants, defectors, reading the enemy’s materials, physical and electronic surveillance, etc. Forget the drones and the NSA. While the NSA program seems to me to be extremely wasteful, we don’t know which of their covert surveillance programs have been successful, and probably never will.
You don’t want the enemy to know what you know and how you got it.
My hope is that we have very sharp, knowledgeable people doing the intell work so that we don’t make mistakes and hurt innocent people.
Just rounding up everyone from a group isn’t the answer and it isn’t going to work. How’s that immigration deportation program going?
Intelligence, targetting, and then necessary action, whether here or abroad, is the way to go.
Been there, done that.

I have no idea what Scalia is looking at, though with Obama and Holder in charge, I could take an educated guess. However, he might be talking about a round-up of Moslem extremists and their supporters, such as CAIR, their coverup front, in the event of another 9/11 and that would be justified.
We have been heavily infiltrated by the Moslem Brotherhood, the Gulen Movement, East European Moslems, and Red Chinese agents (even in Congress, Judy Chu (D-Cal) being one, and there is supposed to be another major Red Chinese player in New York City).
We haven’t got enough FBI agents to keep track of all of them, plus keeping an eye on thousands of American communists and sympathizers (One just got elected the Mayor of New York City. Well what do you know? Didn’t see that coming, did we? Didn’t even know who the red bastard was until too late, and more are waiting in the political wings).
If it weren’t for the Patriot Act, we would still be in a pre-9/11 intelligence mode, and you see how that worked.
As I have written elsewhere at FR, you have to know you enemy, have good intelligence on who they are, where they are, how they operate, who their contacts are, who funds them, and what they are planning.
It is the president and the attorney general who are blocking a fully effective counter-intelligence effort, aided and abetted by the Democrats in Congress, deliberately and/or stupidly.
That is why FreeRepublic is such a good forum for people to put on documented information about our enemies. There are people on the posting-line who have been in intelligence and can help provide some context as to who and what the threats are.
Being aware that there is a threat is the first step needed towards fighting it.
Hope? This machinery is now under the control of a very corrupt administration ... and George Soros ... who paid for it.
This is the question of the age. All-powerful intelligence is ncessary. But how do we make sure that the people who are operating it are "the good guys?"
We can't.
How do we make sure that Obama and Holder aren't working against us, the way FDR's people did?
We can't. (And they obviously, IMO, are.)
I’m going to have to search out your comments. I’ve always liked them, and the last few months have very little time for FR. So searching out a few freepers’ comments saves a lot of time and irritation.
I agree with everything you said. What I wonder is how to cure this evil.
A lot of the lower level people in Intelligence (FBI, CIA, DIA, NSA etc) are very dedicated Americans who know that they are being sold out by the Obama appointees and asskissing job keeping ego climbers.
I’m in touch with them on a weekly basis, and they are not taking this lying down, esp. those who have retired or gone into private businesses where they can speak freely (unless bound by Secrecy agreements).
There is an great uprising underway in America. Loyal patriots are organizing way beyond traditional practices, and they will be heard in the upcoming elections, with many Iraq/Afghan veterans running for local and national offices.
More people with backgrounds in security are writing books, speaking on talk shows, or just writing/speaking in public.
Many have come out on the BenGhazi fiasco and I expect more to come out on Afghanistan and Iraq disasters under the Obama/Clinton/Kerry Politburo.
What the Obama commie-czars and toadies don’t know is when someone will drop a dime on them and real all. It is coming. I can feel it in my soul and as an old investigative reporter, when my soul says, “Get Ready”, I do. Sort of at Chrissy Matthews tingle, but not up my leg (He really shouldn’t drink the kool aid. All I does is get him down in kneepad positions).
Know your enemy. Start with Obama and his bunch of commies, crazies, crooks, and cronies. Then look at Soros and his marxist empire, as well as the Apollo Alliance, Demos, Institute for Policy Studies, the new ACORN front organization, the Chicago Democrat/COmmunist alliance (Rep. Danny Davis, Dr. Quentin Young, Timuel Black if he is still alive, Rev. Wright and the Black Muslims, and the old David S. Canter (CPUSA/Soviet asset) - Don Rose red alliance that brought us David Axelrod. Rose is still alive. Canter’s father was a Soviet asset and reported founder of the Communist Party.
FYI: Harry Canter, marxist father of CPUSA member/operative David S. Canter, was at several key CPUSA meetings of the State Bureau of the Communist Party of Illinois including the July 5, 1940 one. He was listed in the attendees list next to the top Soviet American Communist operative in the US, Morris Childs (Chilovsky).
Many of the other top Illinois CP leaders at that meeting went on to become the top leaders of the CPUSA - J.W. Jack Johnstone; William L. Patterson; Afred Wagenknecht; James W. Ford.
Two of these attendees, Jack Speigel, Shoe Workers Union CIO and Abe Feinglass, VP Furriers Union CIO, went on to be leaders of the Hanoi Lobby organizations under the “Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam” names (Spring Mobe; National Mobe; New Mobe; PCPJ and the CP’s labor groups against the war - ILWU, Local 1199, Meatcutters, Service Distributive Workers (later merged with the SEIU), etc.
Feinglass was a Soviet operative in their front, the World Peace Council (VP) and appeared with JOHN KERRY at the April 22, 1971 PCPJ/NPAC anti-Vietnam protest (Photo appeared in an MSNBC promote show on Kerry). It should be available at the www.wintersoldier.com site.
Again, KNOW YOUR ENEMY. They never rest until they die, and then their money keeps the reds going.
I post this little bit of history because most Americans have no idea how much subversion has gone on in the past and at present. Only this time, the communists/socialist have been joined by the Islamic extremists.
Forewarned is forearmed, if you pay attention.
My copy of MAGIC just arrived and I am settling in to read it shortly. :)
I think you’ll be impressed. There are a lot of original documents reproduced to go along with the narrative. It’s extremely convincing.
Fascinating.
You should write articles about this stuff and post them as vanities.
You’re obviously a post-war baby and thus have no personal context in which to view those turbulent times.
