AS TYEMA SANCHEZ of Northern Liberties got dressed yesterday morning, she carefully considered which purse to carry. Given the recent spate of purse-snatch shootings, she wondered whether she should carry her Louis Vuitton with the short straps. Under the circumstances, maybe a wiser choice was the brown Marshalls knockoff with the long strap that goes across her chest and keeps her hands free. Better yet, perhaps the smartest thing was not to carry a pocketbook at all and instead tuck her money into her bra. Anything's better than toting around what she's begun referring to as a "death ticket." Women across the city are having similar conversations with themselves lately, as Philadelphia reels from yet another senseless purse snatching/homicide. The latest happened early Sunday as two women left the Tropical Heat nightclub at 53rd and Market streets following a night of karaoke. Two men in hooded sweatshirts confronted the women about 2:35 a.m., took their handbags, then opened fire, killing Melissa Thomas, 29, and injuring her friend. All because of a damn handbag. MORE COVERAGE Tears, bewilderment after latest gunpoint robbery "She gave it up and she still was killed," said Sanchez, 40, an administrative assistant. "It's 2:40 in the morning. She's just coming out of the bar. At 2-something in the morning, they probably didn't have that much cash on them. "Where are our men? Why are they not protecting us?" Sanchez continued, her voice full of frustration. "Men are failing us. I feel as though we are not being protected."

I can barely remember way back before women were “liberated,” when they were held in such high esteem in society. Men, society, protected, defended, and provided for them in ways that the last two generations could never dream was possible.
“Northern Liberties” is Philly, AKA Killadelphia. That pretty much explains it.
After this point, none of the rest of the article matters, because this statement shows clearly that the purse wasn't the point.
They don't have a problem with thieves who sometimes kill. They have a problem with killers who sometimes steal.
Blaming men, expressing outrage in the newspaper, writing your congress creature, won't do a bit of good. Situational awareness and lots of weaponry to bring to bear on these evil people are the only things that will help.
And prayer. Prayer would be very appropriate.
They're alone in a bar at 2:00 AM because no man wants them. No decent self-respecting man is hanging out in a bar at 2:00 AM.
And white female leftist would be leading the charge right behind Al and Jesse. They want to be perfectly “equal”, but I never see them picket for equal numbers of women to dig ditches or collect garbage (well, before it was mostly mechanised). They just want equality when it comes to being the CEO.
The good men are home sleeping rather than hoeing around at a bar at 2 AM.
Actually, we’re not allowed to DO anything about suscpicious looking hoodie wearing guys, right? I mean, hoodies are only worn by children who don’t carry anything other than candy and fruit punch on them, right?
So again, not my problem. They should take it up with a little thing called “karma.”
yes...there is that small detail which doesnt appear to have gotten much play...
Absolutely correct. If you raised your feral, illegitimate male offspring to be men, rather than abandoning them without upbringing, you wouldn't have this problem.
Wake up!!
Nice broad brush you paint with there. I don't know what Christians you are thinking about, but the Christians I know treat women with respect, and cherish and protect them.
Yes, sometimes people make comments out if context. This article is full of them. The other homicide victims mentioned WERE accompanied by men who apparently tried to stop it.
Real issue here is who has the gun? Oh, the thug! Those who do not obey laws!
I think I can appreciate what the woman activist is actually saying. If you live in that culture, you definitely see it. Those men aren’t men, they are low lifes. Dollars to donuts the victim men mentioned were not of that culture.
the thing about Christians is the beating, the infidelity and the demands for submission
the Christian men conveniently forget they are to lay down their lives for their spouse
also their constant demands for respect and not to be what they call “emasculated”, which basically means they want what they want and don’t want to be held accountable to a woman
Am sorry for your bad luck with Christian Men.
He’s talking historically.
Though I’d argue that, too.
Also tells me you really haven’t met a Christian Man, only one that called himself such.
Here you go again.
There’s a pretty good book about a movement (if something spontaneous can be so categorised) of “Men On Strike”-men who are dropping out of dating and marriage. It makes the case that the men who choose to make their lives around their jobs and playing video games, aren’t being “Peter Pan”, they’ve just opted out of the usual expected trajectory of dating then marrying, because marriage these days, for a man, is like playing Russian Roulette with only one bullet missing. Even living with a woman can get you bankrupted and lose your children. Just a one-night-stand can land a man in prison if the woman has “drunken remorse”, which is a defense that men are never allowed to consider.
I don’t know if the men are 100% right, but they’re certainly not completely wrong.
Ping for your intrest Megan dear :-)
Where is your sidearm? Why are you not protecting yourself?
