Mitch McConnell could lose his primary

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has big plans for next year if he gets to lead a Republican majority, but he has to avoid losing his own seat first.

McConnell is the only Republican whose Senate campaign is on the RNC's 2014 watch list. A new Rasmussen poll suggests why.

"McConnell runs dead even with Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes in Rasmussen Reports' first look at the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Kentucky," Rasmussen says. "But McConnell's GOP primary rival Matt Bevin leads Grimes by six points."

Bevin, a political newcomer, is the rough equivalent of putting "Generic Republican" on the ballot. In Kentucky, Generic Republican beats the Democratic secretary of state by six points. McConnell is not a generic Republican, though. In a general election, moderate and left-leaning independents know him as the senator who said his top goal was to make President Obama lose re-election (a line that Obama's team cited repeatedly last year). For all that he's accused of conservative extremism and partisan hackery, conservatives also don't trust him, regarding him as the face of the Republican establishment.

He still has a big lead in the Republican primary. Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-leaning firm, showed McConnell with a 53-26 lead over Bevin in December. Human Events, a more conservative outfit, produced similar results last month, when McConnell enjoyed a 53-31 lead over Bevin.

We’ve still got some time before the primary. We can ditch Mitch and put the seat back into the safe column.

How in the world can a little man like McConnell lead the Senate to any big thing. Democrats don't think big. McConnell thinks like a Democrat. Ergo, McConnell doesn't think big.

Isn't that a syllogism?

Oh please, oh please.

Dear Mitch,

You are producing CO 2.

Please stop.

Nobody will care.

“...signs of weakness for McConnell. PPP found that only 31 percent of voters approve of his job performance, compared to 61 percent who disapprove....”
********************************************************************
If the unpopular McConnell survives his primary challenge, he will likely lose the general election to the Democrat opponent. The GOPe would rather have THAT outcome (loss of a Republican seat in the Senate) than to have an outcome where, in the primary, McConnell is defeated by a Tea Party challenger who then goes on to win the general election and becomes a Senator.

Sounds good, but he better be ready for the MSM assault in November. And of course the Dem supported libertarian bleeding votes to produce a Clintonian plurality win for the D side.

McConnell thinks like a Democrat

That is because in his heart, he really is a Democrat.

Mourdock was an experienced pol, having run unsuccessfully for the House several times, and being state treasurer at the time he ran for senate.

The attacks of the MSM on Tea Party candidates who take out RINOs are withering.

“Mitch McConnell could lose his primary,” that would be an answer to a lot of prayers.

However, I wonder at that point if feckless Mitch would develop a spine (or whatever) and run as an independent to make sure a conservative would not win.

So be it, Mitch is a democrat anyway, so no net loss.

Still, I would love to see another conservative senator from Kentucky.
