On Friday, every political campaign had to file its 2013 year end report with the FEC. The reports delivered two big surprises. The Democrats are dominating the Republicans in fundraising. More surprising, perhaps, though, is that Tea Party and conservative SuperPACs raised around three times as much as GOP establishment SuperPACs. The DC GOP may have started the war against the Tea Party, but it won't finish it.
Not long after their stunning losses in 2012, Karl Rove and other establishment Republicans announced a new effort to engage in primaries to ensure the "right" candidates got the party's nomination. Rove and the party leadership argued that the party lost because of "flawed", i.e. too conservative, candidates. There were indeed some flawed candidates in 2012, but far more establishment, "electable" candidates went down to uninspiring defeat.
The GOP attack on the Tea Party came about for two reasons. The first was to deflect from the massive defeat suffered by Rove and other GOP consultants. Rarely in the history of mankind have so many resources been squandered so spectacularly. Perhaps the more important reason, though, is that the Tea Party movement is becoming a serious thorn in the side of Washington insiders.
The movement has effectively ended earmarks. It threatens any corporatist giveaway. It calls out cronyism in both parties. It demands that Congress repeals ObamaCare, while business interests would rather "fix" the law to push the obligation for health benefits onto the government. More importantly, though, it wants rational immigration reform that doesn't simply flood the market with cheap labor as business would desire.

"Okay. So, while the country is fully understanding the failures of ObamaCare, the establishment GOP wants to pivot to an issue championed by President Obama and Chuck Schumer? Serious question: Are they trying to blow the midterms?
What is most fascinating about the FEC reports is that is almost no longer matters what the GOP does. There are new people in town. For the last four years they have had the grass-roots. Now, they also have the money."
Ho ho ho ho!
Apparently the Chamber of Commerce has a willing mouth, but the wallet is weak.
The biggest backfire will be when the GOP establishment is successful in fighting the Tea Party candidates in the primaries and expect the conservatives will have no option but to vote for GOP during the November election.
That will be when the conservatives stay home or the Tea Party introduces a third pary candidate.
The idiots like Boehner don’t believe this will happen.
Just keep the slogan alive: “We come to punish establishment Republicans in the primaries, and Democrats in the generals.”
A previous thread stated Rove’s 2013 fundraising was down 98 percent
HO!, HO!,
Karl R0ve
Has gotta GO!
(Power to the People!)
***Perhaps the more important reason, though, is that the Tea Party movement is becoming a serious thorn in the side of Washington insiders.***
Cream eventually rises to the top. Sorry Karl - you and the GOPe are not only through, you’re finished.
I never got too excited about earmarks. Spending is spending.
Right on!
Democrats are, by and large, robotic morons who vote for whomever the party leadership dictates. We are not.
Gee....I know any rancher/farmer knows how to castrate an animal.....here’s a ponderment....eggsackly how do we put a pair of cojones back on these RINOS?
Frankly, the only way that I see any GOP Establishment RINO winning any primary race is IF real Conservatives allow that to happen.
It is our DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY to see that the Incumbent Establishment Pukes are tossed out of office on their keisters with extreme prejudice.
“I never got too excited about earmarks. Spending is spending.”
Yes, that’s true, but earmarks were used as specific payoffs. And they have to go through a lot more hoops now than they used to.
To my everlasting shame I held my nose and voted for McCain — however, I also promised myself that I would never vote against the other guy again
.
So, when Romney was pushed on us in 2012, I voted for the Libertarian candidate (my State's former governor) Gary Johnson — and I have to say it feels great that I didn't compromise myself voting for Romney.
Yup, its a small victory , but a victory nonetheless. It took over 100 years for the system to get this corrupt, it'll probably take at least that long to fix it, but we have to start.

Your post bears repeating. The dollar figures that are now being reported are definitely going to get the attention of the GOPe. Combine that with your post and you will, albeit belatedly, start to see some questioning of Rove and other political consultants. They should have been purged after the 2012 debacle—but no, they just clenched onto their desk chairs even harder. They have to go.
You’ll likely get some flame.
The other likelihood is that there will be many more, near a totality, of conservatives who will not vote for Romney or Jeb or Boardwalk Boy in the next election.
Not after watching ryan’s antics last month and such activities to follow.
I think its time to give a few more $’s to Tea Party Patriots. I want to see that gap between my team and the GOPe team grow wider. And, I definitely want to swamp the Dem $ machine. Go Americans!
Maybe time to give a few more $’s to the NRA, too. They have been the one most successful conservative organization since 2012 despite intense opposition and attacks. They are an example of how to succeed under pressure.
The conventional wisdom used to be that Rove engineered GWB’s sliver-thin victories. The view was that he was a genius. It’s becoming clear that he was just lucky.
1) That millions stayed home rather than vote for Mitt Romney should put that canard to rest.
2) I have never before seen such determination on the part of Conservatives to prove their point in 2014 & 2016 to the GOP-e. What has changed is that the shame of admitting to sitting out an election is now gone if the purpose is to send a message to the GOP-e. The willingness to do so is high, and after 8 years of Obama and a weak Republican opposition, what's to lose now?
3) The fund-raising disparity ought to be the canary in the coal mine for the GOP-e. Bohner, Preibus, McConnell and the other conservative back stabbers need to see the writing on the wall.
