The $750,000 worth of television ads say "House Republicans want to fix the immigration problem."
House Republicans looking to garner support for leadership's immigration-reform principles are about to get a little help from a group with ties to Mark Zuckerberg.
Americans for a Conservative Direction is the GOP arm of pro-immigration reform organization FWD.us, which is backed by the Facebook chief executive. And they will be airing roughly $750,000 worth of television and radio ads across the country, according to a source with knowledge of the ad buy.
The ads, which will air for 10 days on radio and cable television, describe the drafted principles unveiled to the Republican Conference during their retreat as a "conservative solution." Highlighted elements include border security and conducting background checks on those in the United States illegally. The announcer states the proposal is not amnesty. Children are shown while the announcer says the plan offers "a chance at the American Dream for those brought here as children."
"Step by step, House Republicans want to fix the immigration problem, which will strengthen our economy," the ad declares.
The next few weeks will be crucial in the immigration-reform debate, as members of the GOP caucus begin staking out their positions on the principles and as leadership figures out where a bulk of the lawmakers are in terms of support. Additionally, FWD.us is looking to sway opinon on the Hill with a memo attempting to discredit some groups opposed to reform as "anti-immigrant."
4. _Resolved_, That alien friends are under the jurisdiction and protection of the laws of the State wherein they are: that no power over them has been delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the individual States, distinct from their power over citizens. And it being true as a general principle, and one of the amendments to the Constitution having also declared, that the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people, the act of the Congress of the United States, passed on the day of July, 1798, intituled An Act concerning aliens, which assumes powers over alien friends, not delegated by the Constitution, is not law, but is altogether void, and of no force (emphasis added). Thomas Jefferson, Draft of the Kentucky Resolutions - October 1798.
So what Mr. Zuckerberg's associates first need to do concerning their immigration campaign is the following. They need to inspire Congress to propose an appropriate immigration amendment to the Constitution to the states as required in general by the Constitution's Article V.
And then, if the states chose to ratify the amendment, Congress would have the specific power that it needs to regulate immigration, and Mr. Zuckerberg and his associates would be heros.
well... nothing we can do now. That money has moved around so much theres no way well ever really be able to account for it. Guess well just have to reform our tax laws and legalize it.
We already did that with marijuana and gay marriage.
We already do that when we tell the American Indians who sue for getting their lands back which were signed by the US govt to forget about it.
And we already do that to some extent with the IRS and tax returns filed more than 3 years ago.
And we already do that if you are owed money from more than 3 years ago on an IRS return, you are out of luck.
And we already do that with many works of art that the west appropriated from undeveloped countries when we tell them, we got it and you are not getting it back. Many many wester art galleries are being asked to give their stuff back to the original countries because they were mostly plundered by western treasure hunters.
So, it is likely the illegals who have been here a long time are saying “we’ve been here, and we are staying.”
Don’t mislead on that ad. It’s not endorsed by the House GOP. It’s an excellent ad and takes a lot of steam out of the Dem effort. You’re misrepresenting what it says.
Every FReeper should watch the ad for themselves. Let’ not lose our heads, that only helps the Left.
No, it isn’t the same.
The ad is awful.
What does pay fines, taxes mean 1010? WHO pays fines taxes and why?
The ad doesn’t say, does it?
Appears in San Francisco's Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Parade ...
Supports and Obama and says he's "chill" ...
Thank you, Heart wrenching and cold hard facts. God have Mercy on America
Why do I have to obey the law?
Oh right, cause I’m white.
No it doesn’t and it shouldn’t. It’s a very good ad.
leftist MSM loves fake “Republicans” and “conservatives” supporting leftist causes
It’s a leftwing org, of course
Sorta like “Gun Safety Advocates”?=disarmers
Zuckerturd using propaganda techniques. Typical socialist maneuver.
fines and taxes are worthless since the president wont enforce them!
I dont think these ads help. If they actually had footage of ICE agents arresting children at elementary school they might be able to trick the viewer. The RNC, NRCC and leadership don’t want to pass it right now. They want Democrats to demand amnesty plus and try to leave voters with no choice but to vote GOP.
Even with the asshole (Boehner’s word) Dreamers they even imply these are 30 year old BS artists.
Steve King was talking about the valedictorian(best) and the drug mules(worst).
What about the regular below average deadbeat Dreamers?
Yep. I'd not be surprised if EVERY stinkin' one of them has been promised to have ALL of their future campaigns bankrolled (initially by them, then some sort of "worked in" slush fund) AND their retirement accounts, too.
That's why they could care less about what We the People/their constituents/their base have to say.
Facebook as a Vice President of US Public Policy? What the hell is that?
