NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) New York Jets legend Joe Namath says hes improved after going through some things medically that could be tied to concussions suffered during his playing days.
Namath made the comments in a CBS interview to be aired the morning of Super Bowl XLVIII. Ive seen some things on my brain. But Ive had some treatment, and Ive improved, Namath told Rita Braver of CBS Sunday Morning.
Namath, whose knee problems have been well documented, said the body is just not designed to play football. A federal judge nixed preliminary approval of a $765 million settlement for players suffering the effects of concussions earlier this month, saying the dollar figure may be on the low side. More than 4,500 former players, including Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett, are suing the NFL.
Despite all that, a recent poll said 85 percent of players would choose to play in the Super Bowl with a concussion.

Saw it just last night for the first time.I could comment in detail but all I'll say is that BU Medical School, despite not having the reputation of Harvard,Yale,Hopkins,Mayo Clinic etc,etc is still one of the finest medical schools in the world and as such it attracts many insanely talented physicians in *every* medical and surgical specialty.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. If given the choice I'd choose Suzy over her...whoever she is.
Yup, not a single catastrophic blow to the head but moderate repeated blows to the brain over the course of a football career into the pros. Although recieving moderate blows after receiving an actual concussion might make it worse. There’s no helmet that can stop that.
The NFL won’t test for HGH, so you have 300+lb superfast behemoths who can train hard during a season and heal superfast like wolverine through an NFL career. Except HGH isn’t known to heal the brain injuries received through the course of a football career.

It’s Erin Andrews...a Gator. Either way, I’m sure both women would turn us down. Of course that wouldn’t stop me from hitting on either.
Speak for yourself there.pal! :-) Suzy has been hounding me for *years* for a date.
Good interview of Bradshaw and Howie Long in SI this week. The physical thing is addressed.
Joes brain problems have more to do with substance abuse than football
You’re just playing hard to get...understood. :)
Ouch, my brain!
I don’t get it. Did she have a concussion??
What don’t you get?
I’m joking.
My bad. It’s sometimes hard for me to pick that up in written word.
“Johnnie MADE me do IT” seems to work whether you’re 8 or 88...
You know..... excuses to cover bad decisions..
I read your post and have no idea what you’re trying to say.
I’m sure alcohol has nothing to do with the pathology.
When Joe signed with the Jets (and with a 400k signing bonus)all of us back in his hometown (Beaver Falls, PA)said that 5 years after he retires he’ll be back working in the steel mills. Well, he retired, the mills are closed, and Joe looks like he is living comfortably.
I’d say he has done well.
No, my fault for a lame attempt at humor...
